“Rape culture is a society that condones male aggression both emotionally and physically towards women. It’s a society that has made sexual remarks, sexual touching, to rape itself, a norm for all members of the community & inflicts fear into the hearts of all women everywhere they may go.” #r4today

everyday i learn about a new empty headed idiot who happily gobbles up the administration's slop in defense of the utterly indefensible
Batya might be just fine with a dudetrustme basis for a terrorist designation, but Americans with a functioning moral compass actually expect a plausible public rationale for who is to be treated as a terrorist in our name.

Every #r4today ICE raid story is a reminder that conservatism is driven as much by sadism as by greed.

They want to **watch** people suffer. They want to see it, feel it, know it’s happening. They take pleasure in humiliation—especially when the victims aren’t cishet white men.

Pro-Palestine demonstrations aren’t “hate marches”, nor are they expressions of anger toward Jews; in fact, many Jews take part. The protests oppose the actions of a racist settler-colonial Zionist state.

This framing weaponises the fear & grief within the Jewish community to revive a slur.#r4today

@BBCRadio4’s relentless promotion of its podcasts on #r4today is incredibly irritating.

No matter how often you plug them, we’re still not tuning in. Three hours of the Today programme’s biased, status-quo-driven commentary is more than enough already.

Well, that was a car crash, wasn’t it?

Richard Tice used Nigel Farage’s support for Zionism as a shield against accusations of antisemitism & cast the victim of his racist abuse as a liar.

He pretty much ticked every box in the racism-denial handbook.

Glad Emma absolutely roasted him.

African countries see benefits in “keeping in line with Russia”, just like European countries see benefits in keeping in line with the United States.

Israel’s Western-backed genocide in Palestine has reminded the world of what the liberal West was built on.

Work 24/7, including some weekends, for an average salary? Is Richard Tice serious?

“It’s 2025, we’re in South East England, not somewhere in Africa.”

Typical British middle-class guest on #r4today, reminding us that white people can’t discuss adversity without using developing countries as a signifier of deprivation.

The reflex is as tired as it is revealing.

According to Webb, it's scientists who support trans people who "have been captured" by an "ideology", not himself and his mates in the media who are opposing their very existence... if that's not bias

This nation would be a better place if just one White House reporter had the courage to ask "what the hell are you rambling about, old man?"

Of course Justin Webb found time to ask about puberty blockers. The world could be ending tomorrow and he’d still find a way to pivot to a story about trans issues.

a thing to ask yourself re: the GOP's electoral position is what could happen over the next year that could *improve* its position? and what could trump do, plausibly, that might *boost* his numbers with the public?

Why does Wes Streeting always sound like a parent lecturing a teenager whenever he talks about striking workers?

His cloying smug tone must be insufferable to deal with while negotiating with such an intransigent government.

What on earth is happening at #r4today?

You’re paying presenters enough to run a small country, but can’t afford a phone line that doesn’t sound like someone calling from inside a tumble dryer.

It’s been years — at this point, the dodgy audio is practically part of your brand.

It feels a bit rich for one of the BBC’s highest-paid journalists to criticise doctors for seeking a pay rise. What was the rationale behind Nick Robinson receiving a 19% annual pay increase while the Today prog shed nearly a million listeners over the same period?

Today the news will be about the government's proposals for juries.

Please read this thread so as to be informed about the actual practical problems in the criminal justice system - problems which will not be solved by this misconceived and illiberal tinkering.
Here is a list of reasons why some of my hearings and trials this year have been delayed and kicked off into the long grass, stuck in our record court backlog. Serious allegations which will now be tried *years* after the event. 🧵👇

Reminder that Starbucks’ CEO made 6,666x more than the company's median employee in 2024.

This was the widest CEO-to-Worker pay gap in the entire S&P 500.

And we're supposed to believe Starbucks can't afford to bargain a fair contract with its unionized workers?

#r4today is fixated on cutting welfare spending rather than addressing the real prob: wages so low that working ppl can’t survive w/o govt support—in the sixth richest country on Earth.

We live under conditions imposed by a rapacious capitalist class, so poverty will always be a feature not a bug.
"Cut the wellfare bill" is not the right way to phrase this, Mr Robinson. The government should aim to reduce people's need for wellfare support (thus cutting the overall bill). #r4today

Nick, most families claiming child benefits are in work. Why isn’t anyone asking when the government will cut the wealthfare bill?

No one bats an eyelid at royals who pay a peppercorn rent, contribute next to nothing, and live lavishly on taxpayers’ money.

Let’s start there..! #r4today

Why should the inquiry into SAS conduct in Afghanistan be held in private, with key findings hidden from the public?

Does Johnny Mercer really not see the irony in demanding secrecy for an inquiry into a… *checks notes*… cover-up?

“Fear of being judged & discriminated against means that a lot of gay men do not get tested for HIV.”

How often do straight men get tested for STIs? Gay and straight men share the same complacency about sexual health testing — and the same enthusiasm for condomless sex.

Refugees aren’t the architects of our inept asylum system that leads to huge taxi bills—they just rely on it. Instead of asking why the system is such a complete shambles, the media fixate on the myth of refugees “gaming the system” while everyone else lives w/ the legacy of austerity.

#r4today
It's one thing to ban taxies, but what alternative modes of transport will be made available to migrants instead, particularly if they are moved to even more remote locations, such as former militray bases? Or are they to walk?

£15.8 million is very small change for the government.

It isn’t “interesting” that we have a billionaire King—it’s obscene, David Dimbleby.

The monarchy has been on huge wealthfare benefits for centuries while everyday ppl die in the trenches to keep them in luxury.

Our future shldnt be a monarchy, it shld be a fully representative democracy.#r4today
