Russian gov continues to arrest financial drops—5 more arrested in Naberezhnye Chelny after 5 million rubles stolen from a 76yo Syktyvkar woman through phone fraud. The drops opened bank and telephone accounts and passed them to the people running the scam for 2,000-4,000 rubles in pay.

Russian ISPs are looking for customers accessing banned materials and reporting them to the FSB. With the sheer volume of blacklisted material, a VPN would seem like the safe investment, assuming use of a VPN would not also be reported.

I have been a reporter for close to 40 years, including stints covering police and the courts. This thing, from the president down, of accusing people of crimes when not charged: That did not used to be a thing. Authorities don’t do that because it is unfair and leads to cases being tossed.
