Well we all know that (at this point it’s “No Shit Sherlock!”) but I mean those who aren’t big stars or just regular people. They know they aren’t “That Guy”, so why still do it?
shrikedan.bsky.social
Again, this still doesn’t make that right (I’m of the believe that if their face isn’t in the news, they still have the chance/choice to be better/stop what their doing, realize the consequences and fix themselves before it’s too late), I’m just trying to explain what their logic is.

Honestly…WE DON’T KNOW!! Maybe he has good connections in Kadokawa.
shrikedan.bsky.social
Like if it was just hentai/doujinshi with fictionalized minors i get why they would think that (it would still be wierd but at least the logic of, “It didn’t actually hurt anyone” would somewhat apply.) But like…he had shit of REAL LIFE KIDS!!! That stuff actually hurts people via profit off that.
shrikedan.bsky.social
It’s so weird like “Yeah you had illegal shit…but at the same time you didn’t actually hurt people, so you get a lighter punishment.” Like sure, I get the weird logic…BUT THAT DOESN’T MEAN WE SHOULD BE OKAY WITH THAT!!!
shrikedan.bsky.social
Like at the very least, if your gonna do it, GIVE US REASONS/WAYS HE IMPROVED TO NOT BEING A PEDOPHILE AT LEAST!! Sure he’d still get a weird look, but at least it wouldn’t come off as: ”Hey, you did your time, now get back to work.”
shrikedan.bsky.social
It’s also why I’m still baffled that we’re getting more cases like this. You’d think after seeing what happens to those who do it, at some point they would realize: “Hey maybe I should stop doing this and try to be better before my social life is ruined completely.” BUT NOPE!!!!

Like that man was a rising Star…but the keyword here is “RISING”. Not big enough to pay the bail.

Yet if someone found a crumb of weed on the dude though he'd be blacklisted for the rest of his life.

It's insane how their priorities work.

Manga/Anime Industry really hates whenever Westerners make lazy stereotype jokes about tentacle porn and prefectural laws of consent, but it keeps not helping its public image at every turn whenever there should be just an open/shut case on, “No, you don’t get to work with us anymore.”

I feel it would be less insulting to all of our sensibilities if the companies just kept their heads down whenever this happens and kept publishing like nothing happened rather than pretend to be disgusted and ashamed for a couple years before just backpeddling on all of that again.

i don't get it, why do they always immediatly act when the person in question had a victim but completly ignore it when it's CSAM posession? do these people think its just like lolicon?
shrikedan.bsky.social
Nah, this one actually did his time of 3 years (which compared to Watsuki’s 1 year if his bail wasn’t payed is at least more done), but still why the fuck would you give him his job back?
shrikedan.bsky.social
Honestly, it’s the thing that kinda bothers me when they stuff like that, why are they being vague about HOW they did it? Like at least explain how you rehabilitated yourself and destroyed that pedophile disease. Sure you still get a weird look, but at least people know you tried to do better.

I don't have any interest in continuing to read his work or anything but it'd be nice to know what he has done exactly in the 3 years of "social sanctions" he's apparently successfully completed to not serve prison time, or what he's done to rehabilitate himself

Is every manga volume gonna have a big "This author is a pedophile" sticker on it that can't be removed without destroying the cover?

Whenever I see shit like that I can only think about the voice actor Ai Takabe, who was caught with a tiny amount of cocaine which killed her career to this day back in 2015. She's done nothing since. Meanwhile you see this shit happen.

Answer there seems pretty simple: Act Age was doing well for JUMP at the time, but not so much that they were willing to gloss over the charges the same way they would for more established authors like W*tsuki or Shi*abukuro so it was less of a loss to get rid of it

(also kinda "helped" that those two were connected to Oda and his influence was a contributing factor in them retaining their public image, though much more so in Shi*abukuro's case from what I've heard)

Oh I don’t know/remember this other author I’ll have to look into that in the future. I definitely think your analysis is spot on to what I see

Genuine question but we obviously know why so many pedophiles get to continue their projects, but why was Act Age chopped over it?

The few things I can see as major differences in this are that the victims of Tatsuya Matsuki (Act Age) was caught physically touching his victims. It’s also a series created by two people as opposed to one. (Idk if this is any kind of factor but it is a difference)
