Love it!
Telling poll showing majority of Brits preferring the pre-Brexit immigration system, incl. 37% of (confused) Reform voters.

Not necessarily a wish to go back to free movement, but certainly an acknowledgement that Brexit did not only not solve the issue but created new problems.
Brits are pining for the pre-Brexit migration system
The idea was that leaving the bloc would give the U.K. back “control” of its borders and create a fairer system. But the widespread perception is it didn’t turn out that way.

Wow! What a shift!
BREAKING: “There is no doubting that the impact of Brexit is severe and long lasting” says Chancellor Rachel Reeves

It’s about time!
Excellent mini-thread. We completely concur
In case you missed it ...
We never had a ref to leave the Single Market. So we wouldn't need one to rejoin it. You can be in the Single Market without being in the EU. Leaving the Single Market was therefore a POLITICAL decision made by a previous government. Later governments are not bound by it.

Change of attitude…
For the first time in years, senior Labour figures are saying it plainly.

Wes Streeting: “I’m glad that Brexit is a problem whose name we now dare speak.”
Keir Starmer: “They lied to this country, unleashed chaos, and walked away after Brexit.”

The silence is breaking. The damage is undeniable.
Starmer and Streeting break silence on Brexit’s damage
We're the UK's largest pro-European movement. Our goal is to reverse the calamity of Brexit and restore relations with our European neighbours.

Nathan Gill will be sentenced on 21st November for 8 charges of taking Russian Bribes.

It’s essential that the European Parliament carries out an investigation in to UKIP, Brexit Party and Reform UK and their connection to Russia.

Investigation now!

Excellent article. The FT doesn't allow copying and pasting, but there are some tremendous comparisons within this piece.
Encouraging stuff from Streeting, finally acknowledging the pachyderm in the chamber
Very interesting statement from Rupert Lowe.
Rupert Lowe on Nathan Gill, former Reform leader in Wales, who has pleaded guilty to taking bribes from pro-Russian proxies:

"I had absolutely no idea. I was new to the European Parliament, Nathan had been there for years alongside Farage - they were very close."

Shots fired. ~AA

Rupert Lowe MP

I have received A LOT of questions about Nathan Gill, having sat as a Brexit Party MEP alongside him in Brussels and Strasbourg. He was also the Reform leader in Wales. For those who don’t know, he has pleaded guilty to taking pro-Russian bribes over a number of months.

Obviously, I had absolutely no idea. I was new to the European Parliament, Nathan had been there for years alongside Farage - they were very close. He was the head of the delegation of our MEPs, so with the whip ran the day-to-day affairs of our grouping and organised activity in Brussels/Strasbourg. He was one of just two MEPs from the previous term Farage allowed to stand again.

He seemed particularly interested in Russian/Ukrainian developments which I found peculiar. There was one event, right at the beginning of our term, which he asked me and other MEPs to attend. Due to his position in the grouping, I agreed. It had a very pro-Russian slant, with individuals who claimed to be close to Putin there. For obvious reasons, I did not attend another such event.

I thought his obsession with that part of the world was strange, but given his years in the Parliament and position in the party, I didn’t think there was more to it. Other MEPs also found it unusual, but we just got on with job.

So to journalists asking, there is my response.

It is disgraceful behaviour, treasonous behaviour.

I am ashamed to have ever sat alongside him.

A very positive post. Thank you Sue
Don't believe the doubters who say the EU wouldn't want us back.
Not that the process would be easy or quick, but rejoining is a very real option that both sides would welcome & hugely benefit from.
In case you missed it ...
Barnier has said many times over the years that the door is always open for us to rejoin the EU. We'd lose the rebate we used to have, of course. But anything would be better than continuing our isolation and decline with Brexit.

There were many seats with a 3 or 4 way split last time.
Next time it will be far more important. Getting rid of the Tories was always likely to happen last time around. Next time, far more is at stake - if Farage wins it will be a disaster on a scale far worse than the previous 14 years.
Surely that's where voters need to put a peg on their noses and parties need to target where they do and don't campaign. Can all be done within party rules.
Hezza has had a superb Tory Party Conference, and thankfully he has had a lot of media attention.
Lord Heseltine, "Brexit is now having a debilitating effect on the UK.. It will be reversed, not it, when..The deception of Brexit has exposed Britain"
Interesting thoughts. Zack P has said his "red line" is to block a potential Reform government. Should any pact be on the table to stop this?
I don’t believe that Farage would ever get more than 1/3 of the votes- but on this performance under First Past the Post he would sweep the board with seats. It is now imperative that the government should set up a National Commission to design a system so every vote counts and Farage can’t win
Astonishing advance by the Greens, astonishing implosion of Labour. When will Starmer's government get the message that it is destroying its base with deeply unpopular, rightwing policies?

By chasing Reform, it legitimises the far right while delegitimising itself.
Wow! We are turning the tide...
New polling by YouGov, commissioned by Best for Britain, shows: Potential Conservative voters are now more than twice as likely to consider Brexit a failure for the UK (46%) compared to a success (22%).

Very worrying. But at least the hauliers will be able to drink Sovereign Tea whilst queueing in an orderly British fashion...
