As good an illustration as any that "woke" for these folks just means "non-white people are allowed to exist."
Tuberville: "Unfortunately we've got the Woke Bowl, because we're getting more and more woke. We got Bad Bunny or Bad Rabbit at halftime. I'll be watching the TPUSA halftime show. It's just unfortunate we've gotten to this point."

This was such a great essay. I listened to half of it as I did my dishes but ended up wanting to read the rest. The author is paying homage to DFW in so many ways here, it’s nearly as obscure and delightful as Infinite Jest.
“Infinite Jest” is a masterpiece and a pleasure to read, Hermione Hoby writes. “Perhaps the greatest disjunction between the book’s reputation and its contents lies in the notion that it’s a pretentious slog no one could honestly enjoy.” newyorkermag.visitlink.me/xQHtnb

Minneapolis should press its momentum and demand not only withdrawal but start talking about the need for immediate reparations, loudly, with the total certainty that only winners have. "You have wronged us terribly and must pay recompense" and let them argue the second part.

Our goal here is to show what’s happening here. The best way to do that is have press. Press keep us safe by putting eyes of the world in Minneapolis.

I would really appreciate if journalists who have done ridealongs would speak up about how important they are to helping Minneapolis. As I’ve said many times, opsec fears are the greatest threat to the networks we’ve built. But the reason we’re out here is to show the world what’s happening.
Ridiculous. @chrislhayes.bsky.social did a ride-along that was played on @ms.now last night - the piece threatened nothing and was good 'publicity' for the cause. Hopefully they'll come around for you, Will. Thanks for what you're doing for our city & state.

Are there any plans to stop contracting with an accountability-free company in PENNSYLVANIA to be useless and annoying on trains and...make them more dangerous?!

Everything you do on your phone and the Internet is written on a postcard, carried away by a corporate drone, photocopied by a data broker, and left on a table outside a police station en route to its destination. There’s no privacy in the panopticon. There are dangers in feigning invisibility.
The puritanical tendency towards maximal security theater drives me absolutely crazy from tech perspective. Activists have a tendency to gravitate toward the most inconvenient option because surely it's the safest! No, actually, a burner phone is the worse option like 50% of the time

Performative public lying is a hallmark of far right authoritarian parties

And also, the central cleavage in 🇺🇸 politics is still neither Democratic vs Republican, nor liberal vs conservative, nor rich vs poor, etc., but rather over the answer to the question, "Who was <actually> president in 2020?"

What kills kids in America:

1. cars
2. guns

Guess what the GOP has worked relentlessly to support for half a century now?
Gov. Landry: "I like to ask Democrats if they like their communities to be dangerous or safe. Do they want their children to be able to walk to school or do they want to worry if they send them on the sidewalks, that unfortunate violent things are going to happen to them?"

The new @opb.org Politics Now episode starts w a great reminder that Oregon has only had short sessions for 15 years, and they were originally supposed to only be for budget adjustments (which meant other policy issues were cause for grumbling).

Conversely, if you already had a political axe to grind but want to just root for a football team on the merits, the Patriots are the bad guys and Seahawks the scrappy deserved champions in this drama.
In case you don't really have a dog in this fight and haven't decided who to root for yet.

I wonder how much of the masking has to do less with protecting agents from being doxed and more to do with protecting the government from us finding out how many of the agents are know figures from the world of white nationalists, Jan 6ers, accelerationists, and militias, or just plain unqualified.
Law enforcement officers have always been unmasked in this country until ICE started wearing them last year.

*That* is the departure from norms. *That* is the step too far.
Tillis says he opposes ICE being barred from wearing masks: "I've seen people dox me. I've seen people take pictures and identify law enforcement officers and then put their families at risk. So, I think that's a step too far."

The wild thing about voter demographics is how many people voted for Bush 1 and Bush 2 and Trump. There’s LOTS of them. Why have they never recanted? Their whole ideology has failed like six times in disastrous ways and they just keep doing it. Where’s the growth?

There was a common aphorism about “getting older means being more conservative” circulating in the 90s and early 00s. That was just old people covering for the fact they were never going to grow out of racial animus. Most of my millennial homies are further left in middle age than youth.
I asked my class today whether they had any memory at all of the financial crisis, thinking they might have been like 6 or 7 at the time, and one of them said they were 2

Referring to the US as a "homeland" was always creepy as fuck, always nazi-adjacent, and creating a Dept. of Homeland Security was an obvious lurch toward authoritarianism that should have been strenuously resisted from the beginning.
