Vallejo. Not only is the 'j' silent but the 'h' is, too!
What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?
🎬
poignant thoughts from folks standing nearby on the ferry:
"God what a romantic way to travel. Can you imagine? One day you're just coming home from the city at like 6 pm on the ferry and it's like a f***ing movie. And here we are, we're in a f***ing movie."
We are indeed all just living the movie.
Numbers are in: more growth for ferry ridership. Preliminary data shows 17% year over year increase in September.

Total ridership for the last 12 months: 2.9 million pax. Inching ever closer to that 3 million mark.

The Bay Area is choosing safe, clean and reliable transit over freeway gridlock.

Woodstock needs an unscheduled repair and will not be in operation on Tue., Sept 23 for until at least the early afternoon. @sfbayferry.com is working to quickly make the repair and hopes to have Woodstock back in service by late Tue. afternoon. Get updates from sanfranciscobayferry.com#bay-alerts
Last week our peak morning commute ridership (westbound only, arrive by 9:30 AM) landed at 2,774 per day.

That's our third best week for that figure since 2020. Beaten only by ... the two weeks prior.

Peak morning commute ridership is up 23% year over year. 📈
This is awesome. We also had a nice Tuesday, our best single-day September total (10,987) since 2020.

Imagine if all these people (plus @rideact.bsky.social and other transbay bus riders) had to be on the freeways and bridges instead? Does Google Maps have a darker shade of red available?

Agreed on the case for more funding for all transit modes. The pie needs to grow.
We agree that BART is very efficient in this context! No argument there. What we object to is using cost-per-trip figures that make the ferry look much less efficient than other transit modes by ignoring that ferries typically take people much longer distances. The same applies to commuter rail.
When you compare by cost per passenger mile, our system is one of the most efficient in the region. The metric you're using puts a 28-mile ferry ride from Vallejo to S.F. in the same bucket as a 2-mile bus ride.
ALERT: We're adding an extra trip leaving Oakland at 9:35 AM bound for Downtown S.F. to help travelers cross the Bay. We also have trips departing Oakland at 10:05, 10:35, 11:05, 11:30 and 12:05.
We're working with the Port of SF to deliver the Mission Bay Ferry Landing (foot of 16th Street, steps from Chase) in the next few years. Making great progress. It will have two berths but that doesn't guarantee multiple landings for games.
We sold out the last half-dozen Valkyries ferries of the season like A MONTH in advance. Demand has been incredible, but we can only land one ferry per game at Pier 48 near Chase Center. We've often been able to increase capacity 1-2 days prior to games as we confirm larger vessels are available.
If the @sfbayferry.com for the @wgoldenstate.bsky.social game is sold out more than a week in advance, then: (1) go Valkyries, and (2) "we're gonna need a bigger boat" (or more boats)!
The tickets are actually sold out. We've been working with the third-party ticketing partner to change the language there to make that clear. We're sorry for the confusion.
By the way, we just opened up more tickets as we've assigned our largest Central Bay vessel to the game. We recommend acting quickly!

BART’s efforts to enhance safety, cleanliness, and the customer experience are paying off as June 2025 saw a 13.4% increase in ridership over a year ago, bolstered by steadily growing weekend ridership.

I’m semi-retired, but still occasionally bike-commute from Berkeley to the Oakland or Hayward Airports with flight gear & a change of clothes. If my schedule permits, I jump on the Oakland-Alameda Water Shuttle for a short ride across the estuary into Alameda. Such a peaceful way to start the day.
