When you see a game sitting on your backlog that you swore you'd "play it soon" has its 10th anniversary today 😣
Probably the one where dozens appearing like human corpses stitched together to make one massive one.
1st pass edit for Ch 10 is done! Not too many changes to it, fortunately. I think I deserve a little break for the rest of the night. Been doing well! 😊
I have a whole army of eldritch horrors, so any new creation I come up for those can be incredibly creepy 😅 Well, I guess it depends on reader's creepiness threshold. While they vary in sizes and shapes, I like making them unsettling, especially when they try to imitate animals and people.
Who is your creepiest character? I created a serial killer that toys with women’s feelings. It doesn’t turn out well for him #writingq #WritingCommunity

I guess I can pull out my collage from ChaosPit. There's not enough of a character limit to list out the huge number of things. Even if it was for one small thing or a throw away gag, I added it in. A few references in there that I don't even remember what I used from it, anymore 😋

Freebie Fri!
I've been getting into get art commissions (when I can budget) & they really help motivate me! I REALLY want to yap about my chars more in prompt games, but so much can be spoilery... Instead, I chose to show them off visually, hoping maybe they'll help spark interest.

it's okay to want people to like your oc. validation and praise are very human needs. but here's the thing: if you don't love the shit out of your oc first- i mean you gotta be your oc's first and most important fan, to an almost unhinged degree- it's gonna be very hard for anyone else to do so

I get this. I never go in too deep with mine either. I think it's because I can easier confuse myself with factions, allies, everyones' intents, etc., especially when they get incredibly expansion. I'd need to refer to a chart...
I've always wanted to do a "what if everything we knew about this world and its history, wasn't what we once believed?" story. My early prototypes from years back are evident of this (so I'm glad I finally have 'the good version' of it!)

Good to know that small-scale are also appreciated! I'll see what happens in future stories.
Lights is a contemp fantasy because it takes place in this same Earth... but there are hidden layers which have always been around, and that's where a world stirs that very few are even aware about...

Q5: Tell us about your story world! Is it our world? Our world with added magic/science, or a completely different world? #WeeknightWriters
Most of my stories' worlds aren't as expansive as they could be, so maybe that? I usually keep the focus small, when I could stretch it out further. I see the maps people create and think "oh that's so much to work on" 😅 I dunno, maybe I can make a narrow-focus work.

Q4: What aspects of worldbuilding do you find most frustrating? #WeeknightWriters
Yeah the limit makes it tough! I want to do short-form horror at some point (plenty of ideas), but right now it's fantasy, where establishing a world/history in the story was pretty important to do early on. Horror I feel, might be easier to place exposition, or at least keep it brief.
Ohhh writing short-form is such a skill 😅 Every time I try it's "oops here's another novella/novel!" I think this one story can be an exception, due to the story type (I hope!) but I def plan on framing it very differently in future stories.
The myths, history (usually some surprises), and (when applicable) the creatures! 😄 I've always been a HUGE animal/creature nerd, so there is A LOT of that going into my stories.

Q3: What aspects of worldbuilding do you enjoy most? #WeeknightWriters
Mythology and history are super fun to work on!
They really are! Mine became extra tricky, since it's a very tine-restrictive story, and unfortunately, the only placing for it was near the beginning, before conflict picks up.
Every time I hear about others' wroting methods, I feel like I'm an outlier 😅 Like I dunno, I just sort of need an interesting idea/hook and then I frame plot/worlds/chars around it. Worldbuilding just sorta forms on its own while I imagine the story play thru my head.

Q2: What aspects of worldbuilding do you absolutely need to have in place before starting a project? #WeeknightWriters
Exposition can be tricky! Sometimes it's necessary, but I often get told that it's best to spread out than info-dump. And yeah, sometimes "too much detail" can be a problem.
Absolutely, and I'm glad my beta readers/editor have helped point them out for me to work on.
I still hesitate to call it that, but I do think I have enough of the themes in it 😅 Prob just me over-analyzing it.
Both, kinda? In Lights I def focused heavily on the plot, but the world and characters itself shaped around it. The world/lore needed a bit of work, but the chars suffered the most... Something I've learned for next story.

Q1: Do you build your world to suit your story and/or characters or does the world come to you first? #WeeknightWriters
