There are basically only two positions in the debate about AI.
1. I’ve barely invested any time in learning how to use it effectively. AI sucks.
2. I’ve invested in learning how to use this tool. Holy cow, it’s transformational.

Position #1 has lower barriers to entry.

If anyone's wondering how this is possible, the answer is these strike teams are moving terrifyingly fast. Grab first, ask questions later. We were about 8-15 minutes behind them today for several hours. They're jumping out of vans, chasing people across lawns, taking them from bus stops, etc
30 people disappeared in this shaded area today.

This is cool after the war on everything called “porn” by platforms and payment processors. A machine that stole all your words can generate and sell “erotica” but you can’t haaa
Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

It’s so fuckin weird that at the same time that they’re banning porn and sex work all the tech companies are just openly launching digital masturbation toys trained on the work of the professionals who are being criminalized out of existence.

ChatGPT helped a child to commit suicide in April but in 6 months they’ve made so much progress on mitigating “the serious mental health issues” that they’re ready to roll out the jack off protocol

Altman's dad was a real estate broker & his mom was a dermatologist. He went to a private prep school & dropped out of Stanford after 2 years. Since age 19, all he's done is get investors for tech companies he co-found then later sold, or invest in other people's work. He's never done real work.
don't worry, Sam Altman is confident that his efforts to eliminate vast numbers of jobs will all just sort of work out for the unemployed, eventually, possibly after they starve to death, which is technically a form of having it work out

Sam Altman Says If Jobs Gets Wiped Out, Maybe They Weren't Even "Real Work" to Start With
Worried that AI will destroy work? Well, Sam Altman asks if you've considered what a farmer from half a century ago thinks of your job, first.

unless you yourself are an ex-fascist trying to make up for lost time, you have no obligation to try to help or reason with these sorts of people. you don’t need to put any effort into them. nor should you, as it simply enables them to continue avoiding accountability.

With apologies to @mike-eagle.bsky.social, I have been wanting to publish a zine called Trans People Will Die of Natural Causes for a while now. We will get full lives, we will be mourned as who we are
When a trans woman dies of natural causes, at an age greater than 75, having lived more than half her life as herself, that is cause for celebration, not mourning.

Thank you, Miss Major.
this is happening right before my birthday so if you’re in CA you’re contractually obligated to go to this and have a blast on my behalf

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?
