lol, now they're saying the Nazi flag is an "optical illusion"
Swastika” Flag In Office of Rep. Dave Taylor (R-OH) May Be An “optical illusion” and “easy to miss”

The weird story about an aide to Rep. Dave Taylor (R-OH) having a flag in his Capitol Hill office with a swastika on it, has just gotten weirder.

Multiple sources tell Fox – including those investigating the issue – the flag in question is an American flag – but with a swastika embedded into the ink or weaving. And here’s the strange part: the swastika is not obvious to the naked eye. But is more visible when captured on video or by a still photo.

One source described this as an “optical illusion.” Another said the swastika was “easy to miss.”

Fox has learned that dozens of Congressional offices received these American flags from an undetermined group who brought them around Capitol Hill early in the year. One office tells Fox that the swastika on their flag was clear, so they tossed it out. But the flag in the office of Taylor was not visible until captured on camera.

It is not known what group brought the flags around. That is under investigation. The US Capitol Police are also conducting an inquiry. Fox is told that that the group brought the flags to multiple offices. At issues is if the group knew the swastika was embedded into the flag. It is also unclear if this was an effort to covertly deliver American flags to lawmakers with swastikas on them. Or, if this was an effort to deliberately embarrass offices by bringing them an American flag – which featured a swastika which wasn’t obvious to the naked eye.

What I don't have in experience, I make up for in integrity.

And what Andrew Cuomo lacks in integrity, he could never make up for with experience.

One of Zohran’s better lines from his opening tussle with Cuomo:

“What I lack in experience, I make up for in integrity. What you lack in integrity, you could never make up for with experience.”

The BBC are accidentally running the subtitles to Mrs Marple over the Mercury Prize, and it’s rather wonderful. A few of lines could plausibly have been written by Jarvis.

Maybe I'm being naive but this doesn't read to me as "I'm considering supporting the Nordic model" so much as "I'm keeping my mouth shut about sex work so as not to derail my campaign"
In the past, Zohran Mamdani has supported full decriminalization of sex work (which is undoubtedly the leftist position). But he's been harshly criticized by social conservatives for that position, and now his campaign suggests he may be open to the Nordic model. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/15/n...
“Criminalizing clients, friends, family and allies of sex workers makes it extraordinarily difficult for them to meaningfully participate in public life, including paying rent, earning a living or even walking down the street,” he wrote in a questionnaire when running for re-election in 2022.

He also said in the survey that he opposed the “Nordic model,” legislation that would prohibit arresting prostitutes themselves while allowing clients to be detained and charged.

Asked if Mr. Mamdani still opposes that approach, Dora Pekec, his campaign spokeswoman, said the campaign was still weighing the advice of policy experts and advocates.

Mr. Mamdani cosponsors several bills to decriminalize prostitution, none of which have advanced out of committee. One would have repealed “statutes that criminalize sex work between consenting adults, but keep laws relating to minors or trafficking.”
On one level this is so basic, so low bar… so what? But the “so what?” is that I can’t imagine a single other party leader — yes, including Corbyn — who would have even considered releasing this, let alone actually do so.

And that is deeply relevant.
Is he no longer TERFy? I just assumed he was still spiralling down that particular reactionary rabbit hole.

It’s generally better for my temperament that I pay him as little attention as possible though.
I had someone try to sell me an RPG book yesterday that was very clearly completely written by AI, which was an unwelcome first (I declined, naturally).

one of the things i hate about starmer is that he just doesn’t know when to shut the fuck up

the prime minister shouldn’t be commenting on this just like he shouldn’t be commenting on graham linehan. he’s forever giving his a right wing leg-humping opinion when he jus shouldn’t say anything at all

Nah, it’s definitely Lou Grade — without a doubt.
I think it’s one of my top tier books, alongside Small Gods, Lords and Ladies and Men At Arms. 17 more to go, mind.
The thing about reading all of Terry Pratchett’s books in order is that some are, frankly, better than others. After being rather unimpressed by The Last Continent and a bit meh about Carpe Jugulum (although it does contain one of my favourite lines), The Fifth Elephant somewhat crept up on me.
Maybe Trump’s miracle medbeds will be able to impregnate people? I suggest getting a DNA test if so.
Donald Trump lied when he pledged to make IVF available to every family for FREE.

His genius plan is to rip away health insurance from millions of people, and then politely ask companies to add IVF coverage out of the goodness of their hearts.

It's insulting—a broken promise.
For the last week both my social media feed and shop has been filled with gamers losing their damn minds about their boxes and books not being wrapped in cellophane. Not much hope for the human race, is there?
Just wrote to my MP about this, and the fact that literal blackshirts marched down Old Compton Street last week.

Anyone want to take bets on how long it will take me to get a reply?

I focused this, far too long, thread primarily on policy and tried, as much as possible, to keep personal views limited. Here's what really pisses me off though, at least Conservatives and Reform are honest about who they target with anti-immigration bs, Labour still pretends to be "progressive" 1/5
Very long thread: As with many of Labour's anti-immigration policies, this isn't new. British police have been stationed in other countries for this purpose for a long time
It does however show how Labour is pushing more on anti-immigration than previous governments. 1/

The main thing I’m taking from this story is that JD Vance is still ashamed of his association with neo-nazis. Not by much, and it doesn’t redeem him one bit, but there’s embarrassment there.
For me it’s the Crow soundtrack.
My hot take of the day is that I wish retailer web portals operated more like spreadsheets than webstores. If you are juggling with dozens of different product lines it’s much easier to have them all on one page rather than having to click on everything to find out. Pretty easy to build, too #TTRPG
Maybe, but we’ve had voice activated assistants on phones for over a decade now and I’ve only ever seen it catch on with extremely lonely people who don’t work.
Got me second guessing myself. I guess she thinks I’m a cracker? Which is sort of true I guess.
