I watched Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood 🎬 for the 20th time and I can’t believe I only just noticed the final scene represents Rick’s TV career leaving him (Cliff appears like he’s in a TV screen as he drives away), followed by the gates to Rick’s #movie world opening up for him to walk thru.

1/2: After the violent events of the final scene, Cliff is taken away to hospital, and as he drives away the well-lit ambulance interior gives the impression of Cliff being within a TV screen, which gets smaller until it disappears in the distance. This signifies the end of Rick’s TV career, as well as his relationship with Cliff, as he drives away. 2/2: Immediately following the departure of Rick’s TV career from his life, he is called from behind by his neighbour, and does a 180° turn (symbolic of his upcoming life/career change). After a brief chat, Sharon and Jay invite him in for drinks. Rick accepts the invitation, the gates open and Rick is finally able to cross the threshold into the glitzy world of movies. Now I’ve finally realised this symbolism, I can’t believe it has taken me around 20 viewings before this hit me as clear as day - as if a director’s commentary was playing over the film!

A copy of the classic cyberpunk sci-fi computer game Omikron: The Nomad Soul is on display at the V&A David Bowie Centre, Stratford.

The soundtrack was written & performed by Bowie and Reeves Gabrels, whose guitar work helped shape the game’s dark, futuristic atmosphere, and lead to the Hours… LP.

Next in the 1987 Festive 50 was another sad moment, as it was just Prince and no longer Prince & The Revolution, which was pretty huge since they had basically conquered the planet over the previous 4 years.
