And for the record, while I'm not gonna act on it right now, I do have access to records going as far back as the 1890s, meaning that I will someday be able to tell you the most popular song of literally every single week in the entire history of recorded music.
seanfaywolfe.bsky.social
I have now officially finished calculating the most popular song in the United States on every single week of the last 100 years, from January 1926 up to the present day.

You should be terrified of what I'm planning to do with this information.

...and support is what directly turned her into that, and I'd argue that in the current climate, anyone who is still blindly supporting her, refusing to even attempt to engage with where those mixed emotions from her fandom and the public are coming from, deserves all the derision that finds them.
seanfaywolfe.bsky.social
...with her, that I'd argue a more zeitgeist-driven reaction to Taylor's album is completely inevitable. Her life is her music, always has been, and her life right now is being a smug, satisfied billionaire with nothing to prove. A lot of Swifties are reckoning with the fact that their loyalty...

Morgan Wallen being so big rn is undoubtedly worse than Taylor being so big, but his listeners don't care; that's a conversation for the critics and the critics alone to have, at least for now.

Taylor's appeal is so completely entangled with the parasocial relationship that her biggest fans have...
seanfaywolfe.bsky.social
Quite frankly, I can totally understand someone enjoying Showgirl for what it is. My irritation is more with the people who see the broader backlash and say that it's totally irrational... I'd say that people having THAT reaction are either being willfully disingenuous, or extremely naive.
seanfaywolfe.bsky.social
Oh I'm not saying that Taylor is the worst offender in the current zeitgeist, or even that Showgirl 100% nessecitates a political reading for the average listener.... I'd say to most people, i.e. those who DON'T analyze pop music as a cultural thermometer, it's just a fine-to-medicore TS album.
seanfaywolfe.bsky.social
I really don't understand what part of "People aren't happy that the biggest album of the year is about a billionaire being generally happy and content with the way things are" is difficult to grasp.
brandi-rene.swifties.social
A lot of the “political” backlash against Taylor with this album cycle is just people writing fanfiction and fighting ghosts because they desperately yearn for her to be a villain. Which is strange considering the amount of actual villains there are to worry about.

You can't logic your way out of being burnt out. Unless you're me. Who should be able to do it and it's a personal failing that I can't

I think this is another marker that I, while primarily Gen Z, have a non-insignificant amount of Millenilan energy to me, because I still have my old home phone number memorized, as well as those of my now-deceased grandparents and several of my childhood friends.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

watching donald trumps administration be the most terminally online presidency in history has made me realize that we can never have this again. it’s way too soy, and so so annoying in a completely inescapable way that will hopefully backfire on them

There's no "regular politics" anymore because you can no longer maintain the idea that we all agree on common goals but we only differ about the means of getting there or whatever. The guys in charge now are plainly amoral, sadistic nihilists. They delight in it! You can't civilly disagree with that

Saying "Trump lost the Peace Prize to María Corina" is like saying "Trump lost the title of world's fastest man to Usain Bolt," like why are we giving him the dignity of even having his name in the conversation?

we're all familiar with MILFs, but rarely do we discuss its inverse, the FILM, or a "fuck I'd like to mother," which is when a woman turns a shitty dude into a project

In my opinion it’s time to retire the Nobel prizes for fields where most of the important discoveries have already been made, like physics, and add prizes for newer fields where substantial innovations occur every year, like speedrunning

Do people generally feel super attached to having taken AP English in high school or does that just seem overrepresented whenever there’s a lot of Taylor Swift in the air?
