On year, a bunch of people put up their Christmas decorations on September 26th and it began a 5+ year Christmas vs. Halloween war that still rages today in the neighborhood.

Now you can walk at 9pm at night in July and see Christmas lights still up across from legions of giant skeletons.

But my own vulnerability aside, they all seemed disturbed by seeing what growing up was like for Melissa without a concept of trans... and horrified that I felt like it was the typical experience for me most trans girls on that situation, myself included.

Which I think is probably good for them. I should probably just trust my old friends to handle it well. One of them commented on another chapter that he actually hadn't considered that I had a deadname. So I guess nobody in my old life uses it, even by accident.

None of these guys knew me as a teen when I was going through what Melissa was, but some are like... married to the siblings of my Shy and Rachel and Ashley equivalents. That makes me feel extra vulnerable, and I worry they'll ask what I was like back then to their spouses?

That's a good way of putting it. That's how it felt to me, too, like I needed a few days to even start to put myself back together.

I'm getting their cishet feelings as they read, but we haven't sat and talked about it all together yet and I'm worried about falling apart a bit on this one.

In Juni's defense, I have definitely responded to very normal questions with "haha, no, I'm not a cat I'm just trans!" just for the person to say "I didn't ask if you were a cat, I asked if you wanted a drink?"

There are a lot of things I like where they're absolutely starved for merch by independent artists... but furry is the opposite of that. Could literally say "I want a shirt of a cute sphinx doing a crossword" and there are hundreds of artists I could pay to happily make that happen.

I have some full body laser sessions coming up fast, and I need to figure out what areas are electrolysis-only for bottom surgery before then. Which raises the question of if I want any pubic hair or not. A question I have no idea how to begin to answer, but I need to.

I assume it hides the scars?

I was curious how the boys in the basement would take "Everything Must Go."

It probably speaks to their empathy that they're all finding it extremely hard. I was worried it would leave me gutted as a trans girl but barely dent the cishet guys. They seem shaken up, too, thankfully.

There is a joy to when your spouse, best friend, or sibling uses your chosen name. That joy, though, starts to make you aware of the people who circumvent that.

(My family is not actively transphobic, but I have never heard my parents or siblings use my full chosen name and it's been *years.*)

I've become kinda hyper aware of when a trans girl prefers her full name, say Stephanie, and her family or coworkers or (bad) friends only call her Steph. Like when I never, ever hear them use her full name.

I'm sure they think they're getting away with it, but it's obvious they're not on board.

Dorley is not a YA series, but of course the author of Magic's Pawn has always been a little alarmed at 13 year old kids reading it and calling it YA. But as a teenager, if I'd read "Everything Must Go," it would have been the very first time in my entire life that I ever felt seen.

I keep thinking of how YA protagonists felt inscrutable, almost saccharine to me as a trans egg. But 13 year old Vanyel in Magic's Pawn was the first time I related to someone, and how my gay friends glomped onto him like a life raft.

I think the "Everything Must Go" Dorley chapter is my Vanyel.
