Recent @yale.edu research led by ‪‪@adwolfe.bsky.social‬‬, Milind Singh & @dacolon.bsky.social reveals neurons' ability to store glycogen as a backup fuel ⛽️, keeping the brain running under stress — a process called “glycogen-dependent glycolytic plasticity” (GDGP).
Neurons use built-in ‘backup batteries’ that fuel the brain under stress
A new Yale study reveals that neurons store their own sugar reserves that kick in to keep the brain functioning during metabolic stress.

In a new @natcomms.nature.com study, @yaleneuro.bsky.social's Nicola Micali from the Rakic lab, alongside a team of researchers @prbb.org, found that many genes 🧬 linked to mental illness 🧠 are turned ON in neural stem cells as early as the first trimester.👶
Origins of mental illness, fast gas for a black hole
Yale researchers discover a gas guzzling black hole, learn that mental illness may start to develop earlier than once thought, and explore why some brain seizures cause a loss of consciousness.

The first complete activity map of a mammalian brain has revealed unprecedented insights into how decisions are made – and may even hint at the roots of intuition.
First map of mammal brain activity may have shown intuition in action
Scientists have mapped the activity that takes place across a mouse's entire brain as it decides how to complete a task - and the results could explain the origin of our gut feelings

Weekend Read: Emerging neuroscience and behavioral research is finding that autism doesn't exist on a single spectrum, but instead is multidimensional.

Katie Moisse for @thetransmitter.bsky.social spoke with the researchers studying autism subtypes. www.thetransmitter.org/spectrum/the...
The spectrum goes multidimensional in search of autism subtypes
Grouping people with autism based on shared features, genetics and co-occurring conditions may improve clinical trial outcomes, researchers say.

The Srebrenica genocide is one of the darkest pages of European history.

In July 1995, 30 years ago, thousands of men and boys were murdered solely because of their ethnicity and religion.

Let us remember and learn from it.

Reminder that @europepmc.org is a mirror of Pubmed with better search and that it indexes *all* bioRxiv preprints (as well as ResearchSquare), not just the ones funded by NIH like chauvinist Pubmed
I’m very scared to see what happens to PubMed
