My unasked for hot take is

1) the way the Floyd uprising turned out tells me No Kings marches won’t do anything on their own

2) mass mobilisation allows us to
gauge general moderate-intensity support for our cause, so it’s valuable in its own right

3) it is fair to ask what’s next
The kids are alright. And yeah truly nothing gets teenagers more inventive than telling them they can’t do something

Three high schoolers founded a book club that reads some of the country's most frequently banned books after a state law removing books with sexual content was signed in 2023. Two years later, many of the books have been reshelved and parts of the law can't be enforced.
When books were being pulled from Iowa classrooms, these teens started an after-school club to read them

Gotta say a lot of the time ppl talk about the MPA/mpaa, it can make me want to rip my hair out bc they go for very broad strokes that simplify its history and overall treatment of particular topics and ratings. But Matt McMuscles did a great job here youtu.be/Z771oQUKZPI?...

Another family in Gaza: Fidaa and her family, two children Sila and Muhammad Amr and her husband. They are in Khan Younis, living in a tent.
She is vetted by 90-ghost on Tumblr and I speak to her regularly.

Maybe I’ve been too focused on hope bc that’s what will keep me alive but I do think more people want to help than it seems but so much of this shit is made to discourage people from actually helping and it’s hard to figure out where to even start being useful.
You know I do think the most hope I have right now for liberals being helpful is how my grandma is like “no he’s basically Hitler. They’re Nazis” like they do get that there’s a very intense threat.
I’ll never forget how great James and the Giant Peach tasted
Used to be in this program where if you ate 5 personal pizzas from Pizza Hut they would give you a free book to eat, to encourage reading

Are there a lot of privileged performative protestors in liberal areas? Probably. I also think performative activism can have its place. But again these broad strokes are not helpful.
And coming from a red state, do not come here telling me about privileged protestors. Not only are most organizers queer and working class here but it is absolutely a danger for a lot of people to publicly say anti trump shit around here too.
The criticism I see of the no kings rallies rely on so much projection and broad assumptions and ignores how a lot of local rallies also are in relation to the specific local government policies that are heavily influenced by maga shit.
Would love to see this dude read proverbs and crash out
heartbroken to learn the pope sympathizes with the poor. how can i continue to believe in god

It's funny how the BBFC has way more of a problem with "sadistic violence" compared to gory violence. Sort of explains why The Texas Chainsaw Massacre retains an 18 rating despite numerous films which are way more graphic getting 15 ratings.
Like you think the same people who have been covering their faces are going to keep those on 24/7?
If anything it just gives them more surveillance equipment
Thinking body cams prevent police violence requires the same level of naivety as thinking insurance will properly cover you
Everytime there’s a twitter migration, people are like “oh yeah Elon reinstated a group of Nazis so I thought I should lay low here for a bit”
So just saying “well I’ve changed” isn’t helpful to actual deconstructing bc that process doesn’t have a clear end point and blanket dismissal of criticism can lead to digging back into reactionary thinking habits
But I will say as someone who has deconstructed coming from a similar home background, deconstructing includes taking criticism and deeply listening to where there are systemic abuses including how racism shows up and is ingrained, in ways you either contributed to or didn’t see.
I also do think it’s telling of a level of privilege when you only care about or acknowledge racism at its worst forms. She is saying she’s deconstructing and has changed. Idk her or her deeper soul so can’t speak to change.
Just because someone is hiding their super racism doesn’t mean the racism they espouse isn’t still overt. Seems your definition of “overt” is just “saying slurs” when there’s a lot more. Esp speaking as someone who grew up in republican evangelical circles
My parents' generation was super racist, but they took pains to hide it from us. So a lot of young conservatives in the 90s and early aughts were earnest small government and/or evangelical types.

As I said, the overt racists and radicals had to form their own orgs.

They have 100% always been this way, though notably the transition from helicopter rides and referencing crushing minorities abroad humorlessly transitioned to nazi shit, but like that's basically a new layer of paint instead of a new perspective.
It repeats the same mistake that dems made with trump. Assuming racism is just a fringe issue with some extreme groups and the rest are well meaning and know better than to support a proud racist
I mean it’s the big thing with moral majority where they knew they couldn’t say the slurs anymore to signal racism. You think that doesn’t apply to young republicans until the bad ones found 4chan?
