Big move in the budget to lower energy bills by £1bn a year - by scrapping the energy efficiency tax. It’s welcome. But it comes in the same month that a new tax was added to our energy bills - a nuclear tax to pay for Sizewell C - and it’s also £1bn. Kinda standing still aren’t we..:)

Excellent article by Paul Brown, now sadly terminally ill "it's happening all over again at Sizewell C & in N Wales; the UK public is being forced to watch as the govt pours £bns of our money down the drain. Journalists should be exposing this terrible waste..."

And as a rough comparison:

Hinkley Point C:
- estimate now up to £35bn+
- 6 million homes
- proposed 2008, ready approx 2030

Dogger Bank Wind Farm:
- sub £10bn
- 6 million homes
- proposed 2008, already producing power
So it's now news Hinkley Point C will be really expensive?

FFS, I & others were trying to tell people this over a decade ago, before contracts were signed

But the nuclear-political establishment thought they knew better

They didn't. Not for the first time

Labour: 'nuclear will reduce bills', yet..
"Hinkley C will add £1bn annually to UK energy bills...handed to French owner EDF...one of UK’s most expensive sources of electricity.
A further £1bn will be added to bills by a nuclear levy, supporting Sizewell C build"

Those who have contacted Sizewell C with questions and concerns know only too well many get left unanswered and unresolved, so well done to Independent Cllr Jules Ewart for getting Sizewell C, which "is in charge of the roadworks", to act to keep road-users safe

For one thing much attention is being paid to the small number of salmon potentially being saved

Whereas what the system is really for is to stop the deaths of fish that seabirds eat, so depriving them of food - twaite, shad & herring

“Govt’s propaganda machine is working overtime to perpetuate the false narrative that nature blocks development,” say Wildlife Trusts, with “confected outrage about a fish disco”

The claim that a system to avoid killing fish at Hinkley C is slowing development weak

Nuclear did 8%. Just saying. In maybe 15 years time we’ll have Sizewell C chipping in - and by the way, we all started paying for that through our energy bills this month.

Probably won’t see this in mainstream media - aka the right wing press - coz it’s against their narrative. Wind energy in Britain broke a new record last week with nearly 23GW on the grid one cold windy evening. That was 56% of all electricity on Britain’s grid.

If the UK govt's aim is 'energy security & energy abundance' it's absurd to back new nuclear when the UK has no indigenous uranium supplies to fuel the reactors & nuclear is the most costly form of electricity generation worldwide.
This 'Golden Age' for nuclear will keep fossil fuels burning longer!
