Just finished Children Of Time by @aptshadow.bsky.social; I guess I’m a bit late to the party, but worth it. I liked the little nods to Frankenstein, Alien and of course @davidbrin.bsky.social. Just what is “alien”, and what is a “god”? Common story tropes are turned on their heads by the end.

I called myself a "fair-weather" #BlueJays fan, and the #ALCS clouds have rolled in. Winning 3 of 4 away games is a big ask, probably too big. I should rejoice in good baseball regardless of the team, and the #Mariners are showing the grit that puts them this close to their first-ever World Series.

Towards the end of the regular MLB season, I thought the #BlueJays were looking tired and could use a week off. Then they got a week off, the #Yankees didn't, and I think that partly explains two nights of Blue Jays domination. Now they travel to Yankees home turf, but only need 1 of 3.

I’m a foreign fair-weather #BlueJays fan, but if they keep on like last night, it’s plain sailing: 10-1 vs. #Yankees. It’s been educational for me watching the highlight reels, learning the plays that turn games around. Vs. good pitching, a base hit is a bigger deal than I realised.

Following on from my Roland SH-4d urge, I had a similar episode with the €1400 #Elektron #Tonverk. Should I get one? Expensive, no time stretching (yet?) Which got me exploring the $5 #KoalaSampler on iPad. It already has sample time stretching, seamless once you specify it's e.g. a 2-bar loop.

I don't drive and have never been keen on learning. When I was about 5 I was in the back of my dad's car, no seatbelt, when a tire blew on a bend. The car went offroad and rolled, but I was unhurt and reportedly unfazed. I did consider it years ago, but now I'm someone who "shouldn't be driving".

Here in Ireland, online comment on Israel/Gaza has gone fully "Israel Derangement Syndrome". Most are careful to avoid blatant antisemitism, but not all. I take a pragmatic line and try to avoid "could/woulda/shoulda" talk: what will end war and help Palestinian people? Online hysteria won't do it.

If you saw regular patches of this peculiar sort of chemistry in sediments containing organic matter on Earth it would be natural to assume they had a biological origin. That makes them excitingly suggestive on Mars
Still learning more about #baseball, and am about to watch the #bluejays try to fight back against the Milwaukee Brewers, who are up 4-1 at the bottom of the 9th. It was 1-1 at the top of the 9th. I’m really seeing the importance of the pitcher. Can the #bluejays come back from this?
