Full marks to fellow cosmologist George Efstathiou

'removing Musk's fellowship could be seen as political interference...But Prof Efstathiou said "If somebody has a disregard for the truth and says things that are blatantly false, then that speaks to their ethical standards. That's not political"'

The fabulous team at @longcovidsupport.bsky.social are posting video messages across #LongCovidAwarenessDay. They do amazing advocacy work for our community, reminding the politicians and medics that the "missing millions" in our society really need their help. Give them a follow!
📣 🎬 Our second video message on #LongCovidAwarenessDay is from the brilliant Catherine Heymans - Astronomer Royal for Scotland.
Thank you for speaking out @astroroyalscot.bsky.social, it means a huge amount to the #LongCovid community! 🙏

If you're into your science podcasts, check out BBC R4 Inside Science this week, as the lovely @apontzen.bsky.social,
@amsterdammed.bsky.social and I have a nice long geeky chat about the new dark energy results from @desisurvey.bsky.social 🤓

Congrats to @desisurvey.bsky.social - it's looking more & more like dark energy isn't Einstein's cosmological constant! If you've woken up to the news & are searching for the publications, they don't appear to be on arxiv 🤷‍♀️ but they are online. 🔭 #cosmology 🧪

It's the biggest question there is: are we alone in the Universe? Having the tech to probe the chemical composition of distant planets is 🥳, but as this is just a 3σ result (as likely to be noise as it is likely that today is your birthday) take it with a pinch of salt.👇More on the heated debate👇 🔭🧪
An astonishing headline reporting on new observations from a team led to Nikku Madhusudhan claims they’ve found ‘hints of life’ on a planet orbiting a dwarf star some 124 light years away. What’s going on? (1/n) www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... 🔭 🧪

Brilliant morning trying out #Climate & #FoodSystems #boardgames at The UK Food Systems Conferece #TUKFS

Discovered soy milk is double the emissions of oat & cow milk is double again!

And having pepperoni on your pizza instead of mushrooms is more than 20x the emissions....

This says more about the US than Britain.

North Americans are way more obsessed with pickups than people in other rich countries -- even though 70 percent of US truck owners don't go off-roading and ~1/3 don't put anything in the bed during an avg year.
The best-selling motor vehicles in the US and UK for 2024 are both made by Ford, but that's where the similarity ends.
