I plate everything in the kitchen, so a small folding table would work for us. #FreelanceFriends
And cheers to the 30% more heat, but I'm not knocking down these plaster walls to put in insulation -- plaster keeps things quiet! #FreelanceFriends
Good ideas, Amy! My tip: put a low bookcase with lesser-used or seasonal items between the couch and the wall. It's a place to set plants, a lamp, and coffee -- and it can be 24 square feet (length of the couch x the height) of hidden storage. #FreelanceFriends
Thank you, @angelatague.bsky.social, for organizing the questions and beautifully hosting. You make it look easy, and I know it takes thought and work. We appreciate you! #FreelanceFriends

The #FreelanceFriends chat will be back next week at 11am CST here on Bluesky. Fellow chatter @devonellington.bsky.social will be guest hosting on October 23. Stay tuned for updates and happy freelancing, friends!
Armoires are a necessity in our old house. There are no closets on the main floor, so the vacuum cleaner, coats, cleaning supplies, etc., need a place. (Plus all the art supplies.) #FreelanceFriends
Friends Helping Friends: Don't lose the discipline or skills for editing and proofreading your own work. The AI-based tools have their place but, I find, are increasingly unreliable for proofreading -- and the suggestions are becoming "what-the??" caliber.

A3. Demand respect (gently).

Need written briefs, reasonable deadlines, realistic budgets.

In return, give detailed estimates, high quality work on time, on budget.

Having said that, be helpful. Emergency? Try to accommodate it. Slim budget? Make the job fit the dollars.

Gotta make a pitch for accountants here. Ours had other clients similar to us.

Remember him telling us, you guys are doing ok, but other agencies are more profitable.

That led to a discussion about how we could improve. Need someone very good with numbers to tell you that.

Open mic time! #FreelanceFriends

My husband is an artist, so every surface in our house has STUFF on it except the patio table. So even in winter I'm ---- brrr --- eating outside if not at my desk. #FreelanceFriends
I just got back from a trip where I got out every day and took photos. And the internet there was spotty to none, so I actually read a couple of books, too. #FreelanceFriends
Big pile o'glasses. Have em. I'm wearing my oldest glasses (why can't they all be this crisp?), but the coating on the frame is a bit crumbly, so not for public wearing. #FreelanceFriends
A3. I've been freelancing for decades and consulting for 13 years. To keep things professional and reduce my stress, I try to have a predictable new client onboarding process and promptly invoice.

Getting away from the blue screen is important, too. #FreelanceFriends
Wow! I didn't realize you were working on your masters along with full-time work! #FreelanceFriends
