On #TransgenderDayofRemembrance, we honor the memory of those who have had their lives stolen in cruel acts of bigotry and violence.

Trans rights are human rights and we re-commit today to protecting every person’s ability to live openly with safety and dignity.

Not to mention...whose fault is the lack of public trust exactly?
RFK Jr. said he was canceling mRNA vaccine work because the tech isn't effective (though evidence suggests otherwise) and because he wanted safer alternatives. (The tech is widely seen as safe.)

His NIH director pointed to a different reason entirely.

NIH director: mRNA vaccine contracts were canceled because public lacks trust in technology
NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya offered an explanation for the cancellation of mRNA vaccine contracts that didn't align with that of his boss, health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Most of the science around embryo selection is not ready for the clinic (see e.g. great reporting at sfstandard.com/2025/06/01/s...). FDA should regulate this, and I hope it does before too many unsuspecting couples rely on pseudo-science to make a major decision.

There is no scientific or clinical evidence supporting these use restrictions.

For 75 years, the best and brightest from all over the world have come to the US to do research. Many have stayed, started companies, created jobs, generated tax $ for the US, and gave Americans access to cutting edge tech. That era is over. Another country and its citizens will now benefit instead.
The goal is plainly and literally to cut the number of people involved in basic science in the US by 70%
From over 300k to less than 100k. A picture of smaller, reduced science.

NSF Physics was cut by 85%, basically wiping out most of its capacity for supporting research.

NSF Astronomy was cut by 53%

Undergrad education was cut by 71% and research on learning by 79%

Graduate education was cut by 100% to ZERO.

The lag in funding extends far beyond D.E.I. initiatives, affecting almost every area of science: chemistry, computing, engineering, materials and more.

It has been code red for America’s global scientific competitiveness since Jan 20.
Time to catch up on the past week’s news about science and medicine in the US. Whew. 1/10

Great interactive tutorial on several current interpretation approaches for transformers.

A must read.
