Urban fantasy author of Nereid Unbound coming spring of '26.
Getting my feet wet in Bluesky - but isn't that what Nereids are supposed to do?
In the office at my dayjob today--hours wasted that I could be working on my novel. A dayjob conflicts with my goals of being a full-time writer.

Available for adoption by wealthy benefactor 😁

So excited! My editor dropped me an update this afternoon and said she loved my book's ending. This is huge! Endings can be so difficult to nail sometimes, and I really fretted over this one. Woot!!!

Finally decided to give the main character in my novel another flaw. It stings, but I know it's necessary.

Dropping Elmo off at the library for the toy drive. Some child is going to love him!

Taking toys to the library this morning to donate to needy children. Someone's getting a giant Elmo doll that I won.

I remember growing up poor and having to stand in line at Christmas for a toy. Hoping I can change that for others.

I'm 100 pgs into book two and things are about to ramp up in dangerous ways. Crossing my fingers that the ideas keep flowing onto the page and I can keep up the pace. I'm even waking up in the middle of the night to jot down scenes.

Made it to 21,271k words this evening and am now going to have a cup of cocoa and watch some mindless drivel for an hour before I go read a book.

I'm am tweaking a sentence that feels too cliche. It should reflect the fragility of someone whose heart was broken & the carelessness of the one who broke it. Said from the best friend's POV. Suggestions?

"She was fine before you stepped on her heart like it was..."

If I've learned anything from working on book one, it's to stop trying to edit as I go. Write it down. Keep flowing forward. Just get it on the page. Once you're at the proverbial end, set it aside for a couple of weeks or a month before returning to it. Trust me.

Just got back from the library with two books in a series I'm reading. I read every night before bed. I think it helps kick the cobwebs loose and gives me new perspectives on my own writing.

My epiphany of the day: Pantsing vs plotting is not about one being better than the other, rather how the writer's mind works.
I'm mainly a pantser, aka instinctive structural writer, planting seeds and weaving threads. I enjoy the journey.

I guess it's going to be a productive day if my subconscious woke me up to write 1,000 word scene before I've even had breakfast.

I wound up grabbing a Black Friday sale on Plottr (lifetime) as well. I now have everything I need (I think) to streamline my writing. Not only that, I've spent the entire holiday time writing. I'm passing 16k words on book two now.

Now that's a way to wake up. Scenes spilling out of my head so fast that I've been writing them down furiously for preservation's sake.

I need to figure out what triggered this and bottle it.

Finally got past where I was stuck at and plowed on through to the next chapter. Now that the juice is flowing, I'm scrambling to write everything down. It doesn't help that the scenes are for both book two *and* book three. Need to tell my thoughts: The line forms here.

I was keeping a notebook by my bed at night to write down scenes as they came to me, but this week I've switched over to voice recordings because it's faster, easier, don't have to turn on a light, and I can be more expressive. Words are hard at 4 in the morning.

Nerissa practically lives and breathes nature. She's a nature photographer by trade, but is also a skilled naturalist. It should come as no surprise when her magic is unbound and she learns that she has dual magics, one of those is nature-based.

Or do they prefer the comforts and amenities of a city?

Some combination of both?

I guess this post is geared toward series writers. I'm working on book 2, but I keep having to stop and write scenes for book 3 that my subconscious keeps throwing out there. If you're a series writer, do you run into this as well?

Trying to shake myself out of a funk. I did do a bit of writing (very little bit) on book two today. I think my main issue is that I don't enjoy the holidays and it overshadows the good. Yesterday was my birthday and that fell a bit flat as well.

Anyone up for a little holiday reading? Help Kevin reach his goal by resharing the post below.
It still feels surreal that people connected with the first book, and I'd love to give something back.

If this post hits 500 shares, I'll make the Beyond The Mark eBook free for all of December.

No catch, just a thank you for the support and a push to keep me writing.

Went to a writer's group tonight and shared the first 200 words of book two. They loved it!

I also mentioned the writer's conference I'll be attending in March with the hopes that some of them might go too, and then I'll know someone there.

I'm back after taking a much needed break to go on a girl's trip to several places, and I didn't touch my laptop (or WIP manuscript) once. I needed that so much. Here are a few pics from my trip.
