This Masd opened its first flower in Aug and has been blooming sequentially ever since. I love this plant.
All my Phal lindenii are in bloom. This one has secondary flower branches. I wish I could capture how elegant the flowers are. #Orchids

A far-right party in Canada is imploding over a 22-year-old staffer’s extreme posting online.

I got my hands on audio from @antihate.ca that might leave Canadians asking how the hell someone like this got into politics at all.

It involves Diagolon, "remigration" and some trojan-horse-style plots:

This is a genuinely important genetics paper. It suggests many psychiatric diagnoses we treat as distinct are biologically entangled.

It should force a rethink of our diagnostic categories. It also creates new risks.

CDN House of Commons returns 26Jan2026. CPC will hold their convention, and PP’s leadership review, end of that same week. I wonder what the odds are PMMC will have a majority government going into Feb2026? Who might be tempted by the prospect of being part of government for 4 years? #CDNPoli

“those who believe this shift suggests Mr. Carney would have been better suited to lead the Conservatives are mistaken. Throughout history, no federal party—for better or for worse—has been as flexible on public policy principles as the Liberal Party of Canada.“ 1/2
Great article by @ChantalHbert. What a sea change from this time last year. One of her most insightful points is that the Liberal Party has always been a flexible one. I would add it has always been about inclusion, a naturally a big tent.

Comes hours after Rustad said he was staying on despite 20 MLAs calling for his removal, arguing there was no mechanism for the party to turf him as leader after winning his leadership review.

I’m curious as to whether any jurisdiction has implemented programs for pet waste? It’s organic but I believe currently just goes into regular garbage/landfill?

What I find so deeply frustrating about these columns about our supposed inability to build things is the complaints about "bureaucracy" frequently turn out to be "Waah, they won't let us poison this river with selenium!" or "Waah, I don't want to have to share revenue with the local First Nation!"

🚨 HEADS UP

Washington State has reported a suspected human H5N1 case with no cattle exposure likely bird-linked (or from contaminated milk).

The patient is severely ill in hospital.

Clade pending (D1 vs B3). CDC confirmation awaited.

If confirmed, it will be Washington’s first H5N1 case of 2025.
