Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

I think my absolute favourite thing about Trixie Mattel is her name - and the power it represents.

(If you're not familiar: his dad used to call him "Trixie" (derogatory) as a kid because he was femme. He's taken that slur and made himself a very rich man with it. How's that for a "fuck you, dad"?)

Oil for fat is more foolproof for sure - I've got a couple of cake recipes that do that. But on the whole I usually prefer butter - you just gotta make sure it's fully at room temp before you start!
