as part of my campaign to introduce my Europe/UK based editors to Strine, I've used the word "skip" for white Australians in a note. Pleased with that one, but still can't get "spruik" past them. And doubt I'd get "skip" into published copy...let alone "Strine".

I wonder who commissioned this research report.
Couldn't be the Victorian Music Development Office could it?https://themusic.com.au/news/melbourne-named-vinyl-capital-of-the-world/yEl22t3c394/10-12-25
Melbourne Named Vinyl Capital Of The World
The findings were delivered via part one of a new research piece, 'For The Record.'

Just realised these both have rolls of exposed film in them and that the images on there must be at least 15 years old.

Governments love to impose a sin tax to reduce prevalence of the sin but also to rely on continued revenue from those taxes in forward estimates and that's not twisted at all.
“...said illicit tobacco and vapes posed a serious and growing threat to public health, community safety and the economy, arguing a range of responses were needed to deal with the scourge...Australian community has a role to play...directly supports serious and organised crime.” #biorisks #auspol
Every second cigarette in Australia is now illegal
The nation’s illicit tobacco commissioner has revealed the illegal trade is costing taxpayers up to $11.8 billion a year as it fuels organised crime.

Sometimes people ask for textbook examples of 'begging the question'.
R U ok with paying 8 to 12 pct more in taxes and possibly losing your standard deduction ?

R U ok with losing access to different curative medications and care because the government can't afford to pay for them, even after taxing all the billionaires 90 pct?

I mean you’re worried about narrating a documentary and not the full body assault on all standards of human decency that was The Naked Gun.

The Beta Band are touring next year and I can’t find anyone to go with me because none of my friends is as insufferable a music wonk as I am.

Fun thread
Fonts are in the news, so I'm going to take the opportunity to port over an old thread: what was typography like in the Soviet Union?

Spoiler: they did not just have 1 font everyone had to use. As a matter of fact, there were 39.

One of them, you can see here, used to great effect for "Chernobyl."

'Only 1062 days'.
Must be tiring to have so much democracy all the time.
There are now only 1,062 days until the next presidential election. With only 9 days remaining for the DOJ to release the Epstein files, it will be interesting to see what delay tactics may be used in the next few days. Americans must continue to demand the release to allow justice for the victims.

And you know what really scares me? That offline, particularly in low income rural communities there’s the far right rising fast. And young leftists are losing the chance to organise resistance online because of the social media ban

Out of nowhere, just remembered the 1980 film 'The Jazz Singer', in which a pivotal scene has Neil Diamond performing in blackface.

Henceforth, official US Government documents may only be set either in Fraktur or Mistral.

So let it be written. So let it be done. 👏👏

I get weirded out when I find people in software development and project management have never read “The Mythical Man Month”, but also I am forever meeting designers who have never even heard of Papanek’s “Design for The Real World”.

Anyway, books are good.

Two emails today from SAAS products saying (in essence) will you use our gen-AI features if we make them *free*? Friendo, I would not use them if they gave me money and a back rub.
