Some part of me thinks Sabrina Carpenter could just troll the WH right back with some parody version of "Manchild" with the way they're coming for her, but I think it's better she haul all their behinds to court for using her music outside anything she intended.

Not that Lisa Taddeo was ever on my TBR but most definitely never reading her if she's comparing what public backlash Nuzzi is going through to "lynching".

FFS, stop misusing that word.

I won't link to the article. It's not worth it.

There is some argument to be made about how only the woman in this sordid scenario is paying a price but it is not a lynching in any way shape or form. I wish people demonstrated even a slight understanding of history.

No company wants to give royalties. Companies are greedy. They'll never play fair unless they are made to play fair. But a company that wants to retain talent and avoid abysmal PR will "reach back" for creators. Exclusive deals. Lofty producer and consultant titles with equally hefty salaries, etc.

I shouldn't be talking out of school, but if you ever find yourself in a similar case, you can still ask for a special character agreement post-hoc. Helps if your editor will back you.

Of course getting the agreement enforced is another kettle of fish but it's a start
Miles Morales co-creator Sara Pichelli says she does not get any royalties from the ‘Spider-Verse’ films, Insomniac games, or merch

without birthright citizenship in the united states, you don't have a democracy and you don't have rule of law.

revoking birthright citizenship gives fascists free rein to purge the country of literally anyone they don't like. it opens the door to atrocities and mass murder. i am not exaggerating.

Everything here. And let me add as someone who lived outside the US for several years, many countries that pride themselves on being better than the US simply choose a different target for the same bigoted laws. See the way Roma & Travellers are treated
The thing about being an US born person of immigrant extraction who has also lived in a couple of other countries and traveled to a bunch more is... I can be both very clear eyed in the way the US sucks while also being aware of how other countries use the USA's failings to distract from their own.

Israel allowing exists from Gaza but no reentry is ethnic cleansing & history repeating. It’s the script of the Nakba — massacre people & then leave them with the awful decision between their children’s lives & their land and then lie that those who chose the former voluntarily departed.

So sick.
