Couple of hours wait were rewarded when the female Smew swam into view at Llangorse Lake, just before dusk. Also present were six Scaup, similar number of Goldeneye and Goosander, a Barnacle Goose plus both Cetti’s Warbler and Water Rail showing in front of the hide. #birdingWales #UKWildlife #birds

Earlier this year I actually held this woodpecker in my hand and cut it free from a mesh fence, a truly unforgettable experience. A return trip a few months later to see a pair with a juvenile always puts a smile on my face.
