Basically all the bad shit isn't from the game itself, but from the circumstances that come with it. It's possible to play it mostly without those, if you don't spend money/don't stream it/turn off in-game chat, but it's... Difficult. 😅

It's... Complicated.

In a vacuum, I'd say it's a good game.

But it's the combination of the toxic community, the constant shittiness of riot, the way it seems to bring out the worst in otherwise totally wonderful people, and the addictive nature of it that keeps me away.

I've always rather enjoyed "failure" on the grounds that the common definition of it seems to be "an opportunity to learn", same as just finding out you were wrong about something 🤷‍♀️

Make plans, not expectations.

Expectations are rigid, and when you fail to meet them it's nigh impossible to keep going, your momentum has died.

Plans are flexible. When things don't go according to plan, you simply change your plan!

the fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. it's called ego involvement. when failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. not because you don't care, but because you care too much.

you don't need lower standards. you need less self-worth tangled up in your goals. the work gets easier when it's not about proving who you are.
