It's a game called The Pacifist, made for GB Showdown 2023. You try to end a hostage situation without harming anyone. It's a bit rough and I had one day left to do all the level design. Oops. Still, check it out!

"The Pacifist"

I completely forgot why I decided to use brown for the pseudo aspect ratio borders instead of black, or dark blue, or really anything else. I don't even think this shade of brown is used anywhere else in the game.

"They haven't made any demands yet. My hunch is whatever the intended plan was, it didn't go quite right."

This game's got some dialog, and its probably the best element I did. There's a few lines I didn't like, but I feel confident in making more narrative-focused stuff in the future.

It's less about stealth, and more about... dodging stuff. Perhaps if I managed my time better, I'd have more interesting levels and mechanics, but this is the hand I drew myself into... I spent a whole day trying to get a slide mechanic working that was just completely buggy no matter what. Ugh.

"Cervus" - Latin for "Deer"

...I forgot why I picked "Deer" specifically.

NES Guerilla War is probably the most fun co-op vertically scrolling walk'em up for the system.

The game had CHARM with its comedic moments.

The cover art for Neverdead. The game's protagonist cannot die, but taking damage causes his limbs to burst off of him, and he can be reduced to a head. He can even intentionally disassemble himself for puzzles. Unlike Mario in this video, his disembodied head can move around freely.

Have you ever seen the genuinely fantastic Japanese box art for this game? The package designer took a look at this funny skeleton with a guitar and went, "Hey that kinda reminds me of the Grateful Dead" and ran with it
