I draw monsters, fantasy stuff and cartoons compulsively and share them here fairly regularly. IDK if these are my best pieces, but they seem to be pretty popular. I also seem to be fascinated by pumpkin-headed dudes.

How Republicans commemorated Thanksgiving in 1869--with a multi-racial/multi-ethnic gathering of people at a table with a centerpiece celebrating universal suffrage and self-government, and with an engraving of Castle Garden, the pre-Ellis Island point of disembarkation for immigrants.

This is a great thread about some amazing family Christmas traditions (not mine, sadly).
Your dad sounds like he was a terrific guy.
My take on Christmas was heavily informed by my dad, who threw medieval, Victorian, and Biblical practices in a bag and shook 'em up, in the public sphere.

When he passed, I inherited Falstaff here, who moved from his studio to mine. Dad had gotten him in trade decades ago, to use in church. 1/

Happy Thanksgiving! We sort of had our Thanksgiving meal last night (turkey meatballs on zucchini and tomatoes with pesto). Think of me when you are having that second helping of dressing and a slice of pumpkin pie!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING AMERICAN PALS! I wish you all of life’s good things and more reasons to be thankful very very soon!

In the meantime - enjoy scene-stealing mad King George chewing up the stage, ungrateful colonials ;D (it’s not that great over here either tbh!)

Listening to 99% Invisible about the book Murderland that attempts to make a link between serial murderers and lead poisoning via smelting plants. It got me to thinking about the entire boomer generation who coexisted with leaded gas for decades and now votes for a GOP that’s gone off the rails.

Watching Batman Returns: Penguin is introduced to his campaign team in just his underwear and eating a raw fish, then bites the nose of one of the workers and the workers are still enthused about him. When I first saw this years ago I thought "How come these people don't quit on the spot?"

Companions of Christmas: MERCURIUS ABU-SIFIN

Today (November 25) is the feast day of this Scythian-Romano soldier saint, who wields two swords: one with which to fight evil men, the other, given to him by the Archangel Michael, with which to fight demons, evil spirits, and monsters. 1/

Natty new tie & matching socks. Signal flag on the old trunk. Rust coming through the running boards. His father's pale forehead. One last pack lunch from Mom. Books full of bits of paper to mark his progress. If you need to understand what art is, there is no better place to start than Rockwell.
The subject was revisited by Norman Rockwell in 1954, with a starker contrast between the generations, fewer heartstrings, and much more optimism.

Rockwell's painting was also hugely popular. Like Hovenden's take, it was widely reproduced, and got the movie treatment too.
