A tall and large mushroom with a brown cone-shaped cap and roughly textured white stipe emerges from a white egg-like structure. Like many Amanitas, this one grows from what appears almost like an egg before it breaks through and grows taller. Brown soil with thin roots and fir needles surrounds it.

Guess what? Fireworks butt. Here's a tiny planthopper nymph (not sure which family) from Costa Rica, one of several kinds we saw. The fibers are a waxy material; if a predator attacks from behind, they can break off harmlessly and let the nymph escape. Alternatively...Coachella-ready. 🐙🌿 🎆 #insects
