The Enterprise-D bridge we got is my favourite from all the shows, so things worked out well. But I've always found these ideas for a much more casual, democratic bridge to be very appealing. I'd still like to see something like this in a Star Trek series one day. /1

Found this while digging around for a random game for Saturday. I don't have many signed things but some Tron light cycles signed by Syd Mead will do for starters.

So I got a Google knowledge panel a few days ago, and I've been reading more about them. I've been trying to work out which social media platforms on it. Also, how do you get it to pop up straight away instead of being something half way down the page you have to click on?

68 years ago, on the 3rd of November 1957, the Sputnik 2 satellite was launched into orbit by the Soviet Union. It was the second spacecraft launched into earth orbit (after Sputnik 1) and carried Laika, the first animal in earth orbit. Laika died, as planned, during this. #otd #history 🗃️

2nd Nov. 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of the ongoing human presence off-world.
That is, humans have continuously occupied the ISS for exactly 25 years today.
So if you're <= 24 years old, you've never lived in a world where humans were *only* terrestrial-based.

Lots of phone scams use AI to spoof real people to steal money. It's crazy that we've reached a point where this is needed, but having a pre-agreed codeword with your family and friends that you can share in an emergency can be *critical* in determining if a suspicious call is in fact a real person.
"Criminals increasingly use generative AI to mimic real people’s voices and con their loved ones out of money. There’s a simple solution to this high-tech problem: a code word." www.wsj.com/tech/persona...
Why Every Family Needs a Code Word
Authenticating the voice on the other end of the line is critical in an age of deepfakes.

443 years ago, on the 15th of October 1582, the Gregorian calendar was first adopted causing many Catholic European countries to jump from the 4th to the 15th. The calendar was decreed by Pope Gregory XIII to regain a correct calculation of the date of Easter. #otd #history 🗃️

The entire bottom 50% of America is worth just $4.2 trillion.
Read that back.
When 400 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.
