Having reached a thousand followers here (!), it's clearly time for me to do a big ol' self-promo thread of "Here's the parts of my TTRPG work I think you should know about!".

So here we go:

Listen, I will not stand for these slurs on the name of Clippy. Clippy was a well-curated guide to software usage plagued by a dipshit interface. ChatGPT is just a plague.

What IS it that I gotta hand to them?

And I mean, historically, at the roots of that phrase, there was a thing that was handed to someone.

But what?

Stranger Things 5: Now also reproducing the standard 90s trope of "These kids are obviously too old for high school, but let's all pretend", another classic.

Not even joking; it may be unintended, but it's still a callback.

We received a hook, meant to be door-mounted, for holding a wreath. It is, uh, bedazzled.

6yo, upon seeing it: I'm going to take this and make it my weapon for killing people when I go and kill people.

Me: Yes.

Entering the age where one collects up all the bits of one's prior life stages (call it nostalgia or reinforcing continuity of self, whatever), and doing so at a time when a lot of the things one uses are getting shittier, really invites building a private library of stuff, going in, and staying in.

Anybody wants to hire me to make an isometric pixel art gothic tactical stealth rpg?? Or hire me as a pixel artist in general.

Fantasy culture that's obsessive about good posture, creates rough equivalent of spring steel back and body braces, develops physical arts based on the fact of "I can literally tense and spring at many of my joints".

Without claiming to have guessed or known this in ANY sense, I can still say: My core reaction isn't surprise so much as "Oh, yeah, that tracks".
NEWS: I spent the past 24 hours going through major MAGA accounts on Twitter, and a bombshell development has become clear: most of the right-wing ecosphere is being fed propaganda from foreign actors.

This impacts elections. This impacts discourse. This is major. Subscribe to support my work:

Do not listen to this man. Design all your games for the D30, the D24, and the D12. God came to me in a dream and he told me the D30 is the best one.
There are many many dice you can get. You can get a d22, d24, d30, etc. There's a d50. But very few people have those dice. EVERYONE has d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, and d20. Especially d6. So when you design games, you consider that fact and maybe avoid using d22, d50, etc. But you CAN use them!

Running a charm offensive on Trump is intelligent, do-able, and pragmatic, but like, sweet fuck it's got to feel greasy to succeed.

One thing a little distance clarifies:

Being angry about a TTRPG you don't play because it's badly made looks IDENTICAL to being mad at a video game you don't play for the same reason - unless you're extremely close to the issue, or the rant is VERY funny, it just looks weird verging on creeper-y.
I'm getting a LOT of Minecraft time with the kiddo of late, but basically no TTRPG play for the last two (almost three!) months, so if it seems like I'm fading on saying stuff about that, well, yeah.

Starting to feel the drift of "I'm not 100% this is a real play thing, or a filtered memory thing".

"If a corporation explicitly says 'We don't use this to train AI!', then they do." is not a clear statement of fact, but damn if it's not getting to feel that way. There's just no cause for trust on this front.

This *should* go without saying, but still.
when you're doing princess play with a trad system while running an OSR module remember that rules elide for as long as the system matters and only when your players are in a fiction first actor stance

Every so often the universe reminds us that hey, a whole lot of stuff we rely on and treat as certain is actually quite fragile, and the critical question is always "Does that XKCD comic apply to this one?"

So that works fine, but would have been improved with one of those little cans of V8, more chicken bouillon, maybe some flaked peppers.
Me: I would like some of that good Spanish-Mexican rice.

Also Me: *Dumps brown rice, a can of V8, water, bouillon, cumin, onion and garlic powders, and a can of peas in the rice cooker.*

Still Me: Let's see how that works.

The internet, collectively ticking a box marked "I mean, I guess I won't be deeply annoyed by how the actors look?", and then opening debate on all other matters.
Nintendo announced that 'The Legend of Zelda' movie has officially started filming in New Zealand and released official shots of Link (the guy) and Zelda (not the guy).

I think a lot about “default” expectations in our time — how often they are of very recent construction. (We have dates for when umpires were introduced to kriegsspiel)

If I do my job right, my students don’t assume roleplaying games have a “master” — any more than that games have a win condition.
Generations of game designers tried their best but the only word they could muster was “GMless”

Top 9:

Abalone
Santorini
Onitama
Congo (Chess Variant)
King's Valley
Amazons
Love Letter
Boss Monster
Roborally
And probably Catan?

After that, it's a lot of pyramid / icehouse stuff and other weirdass chess variants, then Descent, Warhammer Quest, and then a lot of popular stuff.
