Having trouble choosing between a beaver pelt, canoe paddle, and cod jig…
Canadians!

I have an assignment for you this weekend.

What is THE MOST CANADIAN thing you own?

It can be anything. A book, a garment, a food item, a tool, a decorative object, a cd, anything.

There are more people in California (just one state of the entire US) than the entire country of Canada.

An advantage of our ‘lame duck’ Prime Minister is that he can speak frankly!
Trudeau: "He talked about banking again today in a tweet, which doesn't make any sense because 16 banks are currently active in Canada holding about $113b worth of assets in this country... what he wants is to see a total collapse of the Canadian economy, because that'll make it easier to annex us."

This biomechanics and machine safety engineer agrees wholeheartedly!!
Next year, the EU will require cars to have buttons & dials -- not just touchscreens -- to get a top safety rating.

This is a great move. Drivers can fiddle with knobs & buttons without taking their eyes off the road, but they can't do that with touchscreens.

(Even better: Tesla will hate this)
Cars will need fewer screens and more buttons to earn five-star safety rating in Europe
Euro NCAP will release new testing guidelines in 2026.

Overwhelming majority of Canadian citizens have no interest in becoming members of the United States. Musing about the USA committing war crimes against Canada isn’t a ‘fun thought experiment’.
And not one of the polite ones. We’ve written a response to @nytimes.com’s Peter Baker and every other American who is taking the annexation of Canada as a fun thought experiment. Here in @foreignpolicy.com with my daughter @alicesouthey.com. Gift link.

We're tired after everything that's transpired in the last month & we know that we're not alone. Please give people the opportunity to process everything in their own way & be respectful.

We want to say thank you for doing what you can & that it's okay to take breaks. How's everyone doing? 💙

Billy got snowpants!
Our boy has sensitive feet that don’t do well with salty city sidewalks. Today was his first time trying them on. A few sessions and generous helpings of treats should help him adjust.

Big sister is pretty much a furry snowplow. No winter attire necessary.

“First we mourn. Then we work for change."

December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Remembering the 14 women killed at L'Ecole Polytechnique.

Most of these women were engineering students preparing for graduation. As a woman and an engineer I miss them.

A lot of nostalgia for old typewriters seems to centre around famous writers, but I love them more for their history as machines used primarily by women, mostly working as secretaries.

Introduce yourself with your worst feedback from school:

I’m Renee and I’m a complete idiot for wearing a dress to mechanical engineering lab. Class had no safety related clothing requirements, just a TA (she/her sadly) who considered looking ‘girlie’ while training to be an engineer to be wrong.
Introduce yourself with your worst feedback from school:

I'm Jen and I'll never survive in science if I can't handle fruit flies.

(Turns out there are no fruit flies in the immunohematology lab)

Introduce yourself with your worst feedback from school:

Hi, I'm Katie and it's a good thing I'm going into science, because my writing focuses too much on characters and not on the Beauty of Language Itself, so I'm clearly going nowhere as a REAL writer.

Voting is open to choose a name for our new lunar rover!
Am a smidge disappointed Canadian Space Agency didn’t have ‘Rovey Mac Roverface’ among the options, but am sure whatever name does win this plucky little bot will do us proud.

Happy ISS launch day! This is why much of the International Space Station was built on 486 computer era technology. Only well established tech should go to space.
This day on November 20, 1998 – The first space station module component, Zarya, for the International Space Station is launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
