He did! He gets little credit for the fact Parliament invited him to rule after the Cromwellian & republican era, but they didn't have to choose #CharlesII.

If he'd developed differently, they may not have invited him.

And they knew he was, as you say, a little dodgy.

Charles is off to Bridport, but rage leads him to such 'rudeness', he takes a big risk.

Despite talking about a different rescue attempt, I'm flattered that my mentioning a rescue has led to this. Interesting reference to illegitimacy in this scenario too!

Louis was younger in reality than here, but Mazarin would certainly have been busy if Charles I had got to Saint-Germain in 1648.
