An aunt said once, she didn't want to see us become a "funeral family", people who only interact when someone dies. We have become very much that, if not worse. A lot of us may not even show up to the funeral at this point.

I have managed over the years to make peace with my family, but that's been a hard fought battle that included letting a LOT of personal indignities go. I honestly thought they were better people. They weren't.

It is honestly super depressing that apparently I was the main person who saw value in my wife's tight knit family. Because as soon as her mom died, everyone else just cut ties and went their own way. And I'm just over here like what the fuck. Y'all had something SO SPECIAL. SO BEAUTIFUL.

My wife's cousin tried to use AI slop to try to steal land from us. It was such dogshit even the acreage wasn't accurate to the deed.

Remember the Roman Republic? Remember how they gave up their representative republic and made Gaius Julius Cesar the Dictator of Rome? Remember how that was supposed to be a 6 month appointment? Yeah... that didn't work out so good. Same reason no country has ever completed the communist project.

Pretty sure old school conservatives are starting to realize this. They might have liked some of Trump's rhetoric, but it's starting to sink in that he's setting precedents that are very likely to turn rather decisively against them in the near future.

If we're going to do a bit of trimming back on it, the obvious cuts to make are foreign grown foods, and prepackaged stuff. We should all be learning to cook anyway, those are skills we're probably going to need sooner rather than later.

The ENTIRE POINT of Food Stamps is to increase demand for American grown produce. Has been since the beginning, that's why it's funded through the USDA. Absolutely EVERYBODY should be getting food stamps. It's good for consumers, it's good for farmers, it's good for America.

Funny side story, I compulsively feed teenager's friends (cultural impulse to be hospitable), and now if they notice I'm acting a bit off, they'll buy or cook me food until they're satisfied that I'm ok.

It'll obviously never happen, but I've always thought there should be a field to fill out on your tax return where you can earmark your tax dollars for specific purposes. "Not a penny of my money for Israel or Corporations, I want my tax contribution to fix roads and feed American kids"

Nearly all of my extra money goes to buying snacks and gifts and whatnot for my kid's friends. Yes, I would MUCH rather my tax money go to feeding American children than funding foreign wars.
