The affordability crisis is an inequality crisis. When prices spike in key sectors, it's not just inflation—it's a massive redistribution shock that hits poor households hardest.
In our **new working paper**, we identify the sectors that matter most. A thread 🧵

Barnaby defecting means One Nation now has 5 parliamentarians which entitles it to minority party status & therefore more resources such as additional offices, postage, international travel benefits, more staffers + potentially a party room at APH #auspol

I highly recommend this article by @redrabbleroz.bsky.social if you haven't yet had a chance!
A chart by The Economist claims that, adjusted for population, Australia has 143 public sector employees per 1K people, placing it among the largest public sector workforces in the world.

If that sounds surprisingly high, that’s because it is.

Osmond Chiu explains why in his blog for Per Capita:
Australia’s Public Sector Is Far Smaller Than Debates Suggest - Per Capita
What critics are really objecting to is growth in the care economy, they are objecting to more disability care workers, more aged care staff, and more early childhood educators.

I’m partial to the old radical demand of 6 hours work, 6 hours rest, 6 recreation, 6 hours education
Do you emphasise work-life balance? Or do you focus on productivity? How you think about the optimal workweek says something about the kind of manager you are
How many hours should employees work?
A question that reveals something about every boss

If Labor really cared about our future, these tax breaks must go
If you’re buying your fourth investment property, you’re a true-blue Aussie. But a student receiving rent assistance? You’re a fiscal burden.
