Scientific breakthroughs are rarely unique; someone else would’ve made them soon enough. But when prominent scientists cause harm, that harm isn’t inevitable; the world might simply have been better had the harm not been inflicted.

Will I get trapped in Philadelphia? Only time will tell
Yeah so they’re cutting flights at the 40 busiest airports starting with 4% on Friday and ramping up to 10% through the weekend, and that includes ATL. If you’re attending #KubeCon and you aren’t threat modeling around this and making contingency plans already, strongly recommend starting now
So, uh, KubeCon attendees: how we feeling about the threat model of them shutting down the airspace? Are we all moving to Atlanta

My go-to college meal:
Saute chicken, onions, garlic, and bell pepper in olive oil. Add smoked paprika. Have that with hummus (I added a lil pool of lemon juice and olive oil) and pita. Can add a lil salad. Bam.

This is such an interesting contrast to the NIH F31/NRSA, which recently stopped requiring/allowing grades. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...
And then while the GRFP stopped allowing 2nd yrs to apply, F31s are usually applied for in 2nd yr and resubmitted in 3rd year (at least here).

If you're trying to have fun, well let me recommend that you not try to start a postdoc a couple weeks before your diploma is actually issued.
Adding this to the list of "Academia things that should be simple but are actually very hard", alongside "ordering from Amazon" and "getting reimbursed"

What is Opus Dei, in terms that an atheist who grew up protestant can understand? (Might not be possible?)
BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV is set to effectively disband Opus Dei in the coming weeks.
This would be the most sweeping internal reform of his pontificate — and a dramatic continuation of Pope Francis’s legacy.

NEW: Pope Leo Set To Break Up Opus Dei
If Pope Leo does indeed approves a plan that effectively dissolves Opus Dei’s structure, it would be the most significant internal action of his short pontificate to date.
