Hello! Sorry not been on BlueSky for a while!

I don't know why I bother saying these things again and again, but:
(1) Cutting won't save you, it'll make things worse and it'll be redundancies again in a couple of years
(2) You can't make national infrastructure like this depend on short-term student numbers.

Meetings are being held amid concern that hundreds of jobs are under threat at Cardiff University.

I used the opening scene of Blue Velvet to open up a module for about 15 years. Spoke to students about the dark mythology of ideas of “home” like nothing else. #RIP #DavidLynch
Oh my word. Jane McDonald is back cruising on the telly. Time for the Double Entendres Drinking Game.

...so we're all voting for Montell because having a rumba and the death slot this week is just unfair, right? Right?? #Strictly

In the 1950s, Lancashire County Council instigated a simple test to ensure its staff stayed true to the county.

Would you pass?

Thank you to the kind people reupping this with likes from my Twatter archive. And as it is evidently #LancashireDay have a good one.
Apparently it's #LancashireDay
Born: Blackburn; grew up: Manchester. Lancashire is best @ cheese; football; music; cities; fashion; art; architecture; history; weather; hills; politics; science; attitude. So there.

The 'Holden Boggart' would hang on a hedge in the shape of a rag and as people went by, would transform himself into a black dog, to terrify them

My Blackburn designs have been a huge success this year.
Folk love a bit of Northern nostalgia.

LEGEND
My first ever trip to #centerparcs in the UK - a live blog as it happened:

Everyone is wearing identical north face jackets here and I think I missed a memo or something.

If you're a university, every home undergraduate you take *without a commensurate loss of staff* gets you deeper into financial trouble. Every £200k of research income you win means stumping up £60k you haven't got. Ergo, you cannot survive by being a university and eventually you will close.
Thank you for sharing. A great read about a place I know well (having lived next to it and bussed through it till I was 19!)

Update from the right-wing press: disruptive protests are good now. But rest assured that as soon as the landowners are finished, they will be bad again.
Sadly I think they’ve discontinued it now but the right shade of their powder foundation also works well.
The only one I use now is an old Bare Minerals powder one. It doesn’t end up powdery but it is the ONLY thing that doesn’t fold into crease lines or make my eyes water (thus washing away all concealer).
Rather than, say, a sensible plan for cross-subsidy to weather the market in everyone’s long term interests. So depressing; so predictable. Indeed, predictED by all of us.
So depressing. As well as the external market, this is also a product of creating internal markets that require subjects to live/die by bums on seats.
More disastrous news from the bin fire that is British Higher Education. The *third* of these stories today: Reading proposes to join Hull and Aston in closing its Chemistry dept. www.chemistryworld.com/news/univers...

As British Higher Ed finally begins to buckle under the pressure, it'll be STEM and mid-ranking redbricks that bear the brunt. Too late to avoid now.
Haha. By the power of @en.blueark.app and a few quid, my utterly pointless Tweets are being slowly dumped over here. You can enjoy boring gen election, university and random footie “wombling on” in two places now (before I delete the X content)
Here’s my Stoke/NuL/N Staffs interesting people starter pack. Biased towards talkers, writers, makers, researchers but pitch in and tell me who to add. I’m gonna run out of slots soon also so start the next one?

Really enjoyed the 14 minutes of daylight we had today.
But I want postcodes, hashtags, all that stuff.
