I write young adult books! I write with young people as my primary audience but all are welcome ❤️

My debut Love Requires Chocolate is out now! My second novel Love in 280 Characters or Less will be out April 15, 2025
After I bothered everyone I loved about finding that 1990 Beacon Press reprinting of Plum Bun by Jessie Redmon Fauset at The Printed Word in Portsmouth, VA, I decided everyone needed to know why it was important, so I wrote a blog post 😂

Why Finding a 1990 Edition of Jessie Redmon Fauset's Plum Bun Might Change My Mind About Collecting Rare Books
Finding a Piece of Black Women's Literary History in a Local Black-Owned Book Store

The series was a game changer.
I went to visit The Printed Word, a Black owned indie bookstore in Portsmouth, VA and they had a solid collection of used books—

Found this copy of Plum Bun by Jessie Fauset from the Black Women Writers series @dem8z.bsky.social edited at Beacon Press from 1985-1993 😍
❤️❤️❤️

I’m doing my best and I hope you’re well too ❤️

“So I deal in straight-up fiction myself, cause I value my family and friends, and mostly cause I lie a lot anyway.”

The preface of Gorilla, My Love is one of the best openers I have ever read
We at the very least need a very well done essay in the Atlantic or LitHub, Dr. McDowell! It’s certainly worth the record to me ❤️

I’m hanging in there, as is my family. Recently lost my beloved dog of over fifteen years but other than that, we’re okay. Hope you’re well too ❤️
I just finished Toni at Random and it was simply glorious.

And it makes me certain we need just as thorough of an account of @dem8z.bsky.social’s editorship of the African American Women Writers Series for Beacon Press, if it doesn’t already exist!

Sharing some Ironheart sources from one of my favs. I just know we’re getting blessed with a full dissection of these episodes after today 😂
Dr. Christian M. Hines and I made a little IRONHEART mixtape! If you’re excited about the show dropping on Disney+ on June 24th, here’s some stuff you can read, watch or listen to about our girl! What are you exploring first?

This was so good. I gotta sit on that last episode tho. Wish this got a traditional weekly release. Can’t wait to see what @ravynnkamia.bsky.social types up about this.
Just a reminder that Ironheart comes out tonight. they’re dropping 3 episodes at 9pm.

This show didn’t get the best marketing and is currently being review bombed by loser incels that get overly emotional when characters don’t look like them on screen. Produced by Ryan Coogler. Go check it out.
Actually Love Requires Chocolate is the first in a series of interconnected standalones! (Basically the second book follows a side character from LRC on her study abroad adventure. It’s written by a different author, but there are two books out now!)
I liked the piece Melina Moe wrote for LARB last year on Toni Morrison’s rejection letters from when she was an editor at Random House.

Today she’s got a new piece out in Lit Hub about Morrison’s editorial relationship with Muhammad Ali and his co-writer Richard Durham:

“Writing is Fighting:” Inside Toni Morrison’s Literary Collaboration With Muhammad Ali
Sometimes editors want a sign their writers are still out there. The deadline might have been a few months—or even years—ago, and they aren’t expecting a completed manuscript, maybe not even pages …
