LLMs do not understand, will not understand, and cannot ever understand information. It's a glorified search engine combined with auto-compete, and you should treat it as such. No matter how much LLM companies try to tell you their machines can think or reason, they cannot and will not.

You can't... repeal... a scientific finding. At that point it's just called lying about it.
Breaking News: The Trump administration repealed the bedrock scientific finding that greenhouse gases threaten human life and well being, meaning that the EPA can no longer regulate them. nyti.ms/4rSszQu

Yes, a worship service is sacred.

So is the image of God in your immigrant neighbor.
So is the image of God being dragged from his home in his underwear on a snowy day.
So was the image of God that bled out for 8 minutes while being refused medical care.

I like to remind folks that the mic is for the listener, not the speaker.

It has taken a LONG time to get okay with hearing my voice amplified. This is year 11 of teaching in lecture halls, and many years on worship bands, and it's only recently that I've stopped cringing hearing myself. This is why I've powered through it.
Always use the mic at a conference even if you’re loud. People who can’t hear you *can’t hear you * when you ask if you can hear them in the back. Some of us went to one too many hardcore shows in our youth without ear plugs and our hearing ain’t what it used to be 🥺

Quote posting so I remember to download my LJ to BlogBooker.
Mine was always f-listed so it's been dead for a decade+, but it's still a place I sometimes go to process for me, myself, and I.
Okay, I will preface this with the GIGANTIC disclaimer that I promise I know how this looks, and I *swear* this is not personally motivated: If you have an old #LiveJournal account, and it has things you still care about in it, download it or import it to Dreamwidth SOON. Details:

The whole "do not flush trash" warning on airplane toilets STRESSED ME OUT. For the longest time. Like, a tiny stiff push lid on the trash chute seemed vilely inappropriate for soiled toilet paper. But... okay?

I've finally (hopefully) figured out what it actually means.

Pay 👏 attention 👏 to 👏 your units.
This morning I learnt another great example of why units matter - the flight of Air Canada 143 ran out of fuel at an altitude of 41.000ft.The Pilots managed to glide the plane down safely with their 70 passengers. The jet had been loaded with 22,300 pounds of jet fuel instead of 22,300kg

Oh SNAP
Again, off on one of my pet tangents, but humanity had thousands of years where this kind of information *was* common knowledge, it was just knowledge that was held by women. And after the advent of modern medicine, patriarchal norms took over and that knowledge never became "science".

Turned in grades yesterday. Went to a follow-up appt for a workplace injury (don't sniff chemicals, folks!). BP was elevated. I was feeling guilty about it.
And then I was like HOLD UP.

I'm sorry, these things reduce mass shootings by FOUR HUNDRED TIMES, and we're still R&Ding sending kids to school with clear bulletproof backpacks???
6/ This is not a debate. That data is crystal clear.

Since the 1996 Port Arthur massacre, Australia’s buyback program and strict licensing have kept mass shootings to ~0–1 per year.
The U.S. has about 400–650 mass shootings annually and over 46,000 gun deaths each year.

It’s not even close.

I'm so exhausted. It's barely 8p. Why??
Oh wait --
1.Winter(tm) has _arrived_.
2.It's finals week.
3.I spent 36 hours Fri/Sat dealing w a window that leaked like a faucet.
4.Yesterday was counseling but didn't get my usual post-sesh decompression.
5.Family travel decision drama and chaos.
