Since her passing, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews have been born — children who never got the chance to know her, yet whose lives have been deeply affected by her loss. It has now been 18 Christmases, 18 birthdays, 18 Thanksgivings that we have missed with Jackie, while the people responsible have continued to celebrate those same milestones with their families. Jackie and her cousin were sharing a meal on a bench on 17th ave when a group of four individuals approached them, asking for directions. Jackie got up to help that’s the kind of caring person she was. Instead of gratitude, she was attacked. The men jumped out of a car and stabbed her.
