it’s gotten pretty big in the last few years. i wanna say it started gaining traction like 10ish years ago, but now it’s a significant thing. which is actually good because it’s helped standardize some things and made product more readily available.

the bad onboarding thing is very true tho. i’ve watched a lot of youtube videos about keyboards at this point, and most creators in that space are pretty bad about explaining concepts to newcomers, and there isn’t really a definitive “for beginners” guide to the hobby.
