It is becoming more and more apparent with the photo documentation of ICE raids that most people are getting their idea of what a cop, federal law enforcement officer (a type of cop), SWAT team, etc is "supposed to" look like from TV and movies.

This will become a thread about why this is wrong.

Not trying to be kind to them, just trying to explain what it is and how it may have gotten there. Canteens/snack trucks are often part of emergency management protocols, what's odd is that it's reportedly being driven by cops, not SA volunteers like it usually would be.

This looks like one of their "canteens" that are supposed to be used in emergencies and disasters. It was probably deployed at request of Cook County EMRS. I *think* there was an older version of this truck that was stored near Loyola hospital in Maywood.

Looking at it more closely it was probably deployed by/at the request of Cook County EMRS - I *think* an older version of this one used to be stored over by Loyola Hospital in Maywood.

It may be a "commissary" that is *supposed* to be staffed by volunteers to hand out beverages and snacks at emergency scenes (e.g. a large fire or a sandbagging event) or a planned event like a marathon. Whether the SA was complicit in its deployment is a good question.

Yes - then factor in how many young enlisted people are also paying a good chunk of that money on a somewhat-to-very predatory car loan. Military bases are surrounded by opportunistic businesses happy to separate The Troops from their money.

They handcuffed a toddler.

A small child about age 2 or 3 is handcuffed by a law enforcement officer in the street, in the middle of the night. The child is wearing bright green shoes, and white shorts and a white top.

My first thought was “wow I hope this guy didn’t give out his name because he could absolutely be charged” and yup, he is correct to stay anonymous.

This man’s account is shocking. His neighbors’ situation is shocking. The entire Chicago raid is shocking.

On the other side was a mom and her 7-year-old daughter, pleading for his help.
"I wasn't planning on letting her stay, but I didn't know what the hell was going on," the man said of his Venezuelan migrant neighbors. But he quickly relented. The little girl was inconsolable and hid under his bed.
"I didn't want them to take her," said the man, who didn't want to be named because he fears he'll be targeted by federal authorities for his actions.
"I gave her my bedroom, and I just told her,
'Just stay there. Don't open, don't, shh, just stay quiet," he recalled telling the mom and daughter as he choked back tears.

Cook County sheriff mostly handles the courts, corrections (massive Cook County jail), and civil stuff like evictions, so...this might actually be fine if fewer deputies are available for evictions. They don't do a whole lot of patrol or investigations.

i wrote a 20 page paper that was essentially my capstone for my entire degree in college on one saturday by locking myself in a study room with some chips and a few coca colas. Wrote the whole thing in 8 hours and turned it in essentially unchanged. Got an A.
