It is becoming more and more apparent with the photo documentation of ICE raids that most people are getting their idea of what a cop, federal law enforcement officer (a type of cop), SWAT team, etc is "supposed to" look like from TV and movies.

This will become a thread about why this is wrong.
"Car 54 where are you?" Scene from "The X Files: I want to believe" with a bunch of FBI guys in perfectly matching, brand-new uniforms from black knit hat to black FBI parkas to black boots, against a background of snow and mountains. They're all clean-shaven white men of approximately the same height. A scene from the 2003 movie "SWAT" with Colin Farrell and Samuel L. Jackson. Five actors in, again, perfectly matching, crisp uniforms of dark navy blue BDUs (military-style cargo pants and coordinating jacket) with black tactical vests, elbow pads, pouches, and firearms. One actor is wearing a baseball cap. The LA police department patch on their left shoulders is "subdued", meaning instead of being in full color, it is navy blue with grayish lettering. They also have earpiece headsets.

Not trying to be kind to them, just trying to explain what it is and how it may have gotten there. Canteens/snack trucks are often part of emergency management protocols, what's odd is that it's reportedly being driven by cops, not SA volunteers like it usually would be.

well I don't like the look of that at all. Take it easy and get well.

Looking at it more closely it was probably deployed by/at the request of Cook County EMRS - I *think* an older version of this one used to be stored over by Loyola Hospital in Maywood.

It may be a "commissary" that is *supposed* to be staffed by volunteers to hand out beverages and snacks at emergency scenes (e.g. a large fire or a sandbagging event) or a planned event like a marathon. Whether the SA was complicit in its deployment is a good question.

Do British prisons have the same thing American prison do where strangers can put money onto an inmate's commissary account?

I've read that night terrors can be associated with hypoglycemia - do y'all think that might be the underlying issue?

That's the best you can do? There are WAY better things to insult him over than his being disabled.

She's pandering. She's still "Jewish space lasers" at heart.

Yes - then factor in how many young enlisted people are also paying a good chunk of that money on a somewhat-to-very predatory car loan. Military bases are surrounded by opportunistic businesses happy to separate The Troops from their money.

It's not just LYING. That's LYING.

It's making a person question THEMSELVES. Maybe I am insecure. Maybe I am jealous. Maybe I am just ...imagining things.

It's fucked up, sick, and most importantly

INTENTIONAL.

ok, I was previously unaware it was a cop "pranking" his child.

My first thought was “wow I hope this guy didn’t give out his name because he could absolutely be charged” and yup, he is correct to stay anonymous.

This man’s account is shocking. His neighbors’ situation is shocking. The entire Chicago raid is shocking.
On the other side was a mom and her 7-year-old daughter, pleading for his help.
"I wasn't planning on letting her stay, but I didn't know what the hell was going on," the man said of his Venezuelan migrant neighbors. But he quickly relented. The little girl was inconsolable and hid under his bed.
"I didn't want them to take her," said the man, who didn't want to be named because he fears he'll be targeted by federal authorities for his actions.
"I gave her my bedroom, and I just told her,
'Just stay there. Don't open, don't, shh, just stay quiet," he recalled telling the mom and daughter as he choked back tears.

A federal judge has ruled that a controversial security fence constructed around the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility in Broadview is violating the west suburb’s right to access its own land and ordered its removal by 11:59 p.m. Tuesday.

Cook County sheriff mostly handles the courts, corrections (massive Cook County jail), and civil stuff like evictions, so...this might actually be fine if fewer deputies are available for evictions. They don't do a whole lot of patrol or investigations.

I just keep thinking of that two or three year old little boy, who couldn't even understand what was happening...

I can't even remember how many times I did this, but also, if everybody in the class is using AI to write their papers on the same subject, they're gonna be the same paper.

i wrote a 20 page paper that was essentially my capstone for my entire degree in college on one saturday by locking myself in a study room with some chips and a few coca colas. Wrote the whole thing in 8 hours and turned it in essentially unchanged. Got an A.

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.
