Watch this GREAT summary of how *one* major slice of The Bullshit has been circulating (in slightly rebranded form) since the 1980s.

I’d go farther & say that the core grievance (“minorities are taking over”) goes back AT LEAST to anti-Civil Rights rhetoric of the 50s, btw.

We talk a lot about social media radicalizing the population but it's been far more efficient at radicalizing public figures.
Online radicalisation of elites is a significant and yet poorly understood aspect of contemporary politics.
Holy shit, when Richard Hanania is not far enough right for you. Would love to hear what US Senators and prominent bloggers doing appearances with Andreessen think.

Seth is back!

He’s EXTREMELY perceptive in matters great and small — I’ve found him very, very sharp on prrrretty much every single occasion I’ve interacted with him.

my 2 books put together are a relatively, dreadfully relevant summary of who exactly is running the government right now. i hate it but its true
I recently finished Wild Faith by @swordsjew.bsky.social and it explains a lot of what's happening in America right now, especially if combined with her previous book Culture Warlords. Recommended.

By Grabthar’s hammer! What a savings!

Anyway, this ad was on CharismaNews.com, which is the leading news organ of neo-Charismatics (think “Jesus Camp” types who want 🇺🇸 to be a theocracy — heck, I saw the ad on an article about a North Dakota legislator’s attempt to pass a law saying Jesus is King).

Hey, nerds!

I’m looking for a Chinese-speaker who can search Baidu for a specific, narrow piece of information and lemme know what they find.

If that’s you, please shoot me a DM. And thanks in advance!

Sometimes I talk about “the waters anons are swimming in,” which are comprised of:

* conspiracy-theory content
* the more-vanilla sense of grievance and outrage peddled by the right-wing infosphere.

Anons switch between these two lanes VERY easily, as you can see in these screenshots.

Can confirm: they really did do this.

Without, AFAICT, plainly TELLING consumers about the higher price.

You have to cancel your subscription, at which point it takes you to a page that lets you sign up for the product you *agreed to pay for* way back when, at the price point you *agreed to pay*.
Microsoft is going to price gouge you by adding their genAI to your subscription without your consent, and they are not transparent about how to avoid this bullshit.

Here's how to change your subscription back to "Classic" for a lower charge without Copilot: answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffi...

Its not a fucking odd looking hand gesture, that was a Nazi Salute, a Seig Heil. Media has to do better, we have historical lessons we can pull from, rather than make the same mistakes of the past. Outlets and reporters cannot afford to be pushovers or brown nosers.

IMPORTANT UPDATE from the conspir-o-sphere:

This time the Iraqi dinar is REALLY gonna make you rich for really-reals, in hours or possibly days,

unlike all the other times we’ve said this.

And THEN everyone who’s been telling you for 10 years that it’s a scam? They’ll be sorry.

And jealous.

This woman, Tore Maras, was part of the “Stop the Steal” braintrust in 2020.

Her work product was shown to Republican members of Congress in the run up to J6.

She’s also a con artist who got run out of North Dakota for running a fake charity and routinely says shit like this.

So I’ve talked a fair amount, on the Hellsite, about the VAST overlap between QAnon and neo-Charismatic Christianity.

And usually I have to explain myself at great length and justify my claims with a billion screenshots + commentary.

But not this time, folks!

If this is your rep

🗣️ call their office!

hr 9495 would allow trump to categorize nonprofits as "terrorist organizations" at will and mess with their funding. your calls make a big difference. really. 1 call is worth more than 100 post

This is true! No one is immune from The Bullshit and its siren song — but certainly for the past many years, conspiracy thinking has been *more prominent* on the right side of the spectrum than the left.

(At least in the American context; can’t speak for other countries.)
Conspiracy theories are not exclusive to a political ideology. Everyone, regardless of background, can be influenced by them.

Those who associate conspiratorial belief with a specific political ideology or party are either very partisan or not well-informed about the history of conspiracy theories.
