Even with this being my last week at my current workplace, I was anxious to request a half day today to see my Alpha off to Chicago. My manager didn’t mind and in fact encouraged me to head out (“if the site manager is refusing to hire you permanent, how much do they need you?”).

Might give a review later, but really liking this book. Helps that I got to meet the author, Phoenix McDonald, in person.

He provided concept art based on various book characters and creatures (big help since I have a difficult time imaging characters), and trinkets tied to the plot.

ICE’s basic function is to kidnap people and that hasn’t changed with the rotation of the major parties in power.

That analysis revealed that detainees were held at the facility in excess of 12 hours or overnight 25 times between Oct. 1, 2024, and July 27, 2025, the city said last month. The most recent instance was May 20, the city said. That detention lasted 12 hours and six minutes, according to the data.

Would’ve thought the wreckage was something like record police brutality, more funding/praise for ICE, genocide, drone wars, border wall/patrol, record oil production in a climate crisis, ongoing COVID surges, or record deportations.

Looking forward to telling my rep with the temp agency that they were the first one to tell me that there was any indication of hire in December.

I certainly didn’t hear that from any manager on site and wouldn’t have believed them had they even attempted such communication.

I’ve been a temp since September of 2024. The only reason I’ve been sticking with Taylor Visual Impressions (owned by Glen Taylor) was the repeated promise of replacing the manager due to retire in two months. Even acted as manager for temps as a temp.

About to have fun pulling receipts for a temp employer that detailed hiring opportunity, shift changes, and promised position for me in April, June, August, and September, only to tell my temp agency that I was refusing to wait until December for the permanent position.
