2025 reading #26: Notes from Underground by Dostoevsky, a memoir by a bitter man railing against society and his own ineptitude, paralyzed by his own overanalysis, could have been written today. Frightening, because many men think this way. The book can be a resignation or a call to action. #booksky

One day they're bragging about how it's great to live in Alberta; the next they're complaining there's too many people coming. You can't have it both ways. The concerns about infrastructure are legit but it's a short step away from "Whites will be a minority in Alberta."

Yeah some people are legitimately scared. That's not good. Even though I am confident driving I still prefer biking or busing, especially the latter cause I can get some naps in.
pud333.bsky.social
Yeah these overly cautious drivers make driving even more dangerous.

Can't drive at the speed limit? Can't make a basic left turn unless there are no cars on the road? Can't read a one way sign?

Take the bus, then.

Bottom line: I do not trust a company using AI to know what minor changes could be done to improve production vs wholesale changes because they perceive most work done can be replaced by AI. And creatives that support using AI will not stand with those poor folks who had their careers obliterated.

What he's saying on its own isn't terrible. But the problem is, what is a tedious task? And who will lose their jobs? Guys like George Miller or James Cameron and now Kojima all think the same way within degrees of each other:

"I am not expendable, but potentially everyone else is."

It's selfish.

Hideo Kojima on AI

"A lot of people use AI in creative work to come up with ideas, but ... I would lead the creative part and use AI to boost efficiency. I'd like AI to handle the tedious tasks that would lower cost and cut down on time ... co-creating with AI instead of just using it"

"Is the RESP worth it?"

Yes. You don't even need to use all the money to pay for school either. And it can also be used as a means to transfer tax liability on investment growth to the kids who will be in a lower tax bracket when going to school.

Never share anything you love at work. Especially MMA. That road only leads to pain.

chuds at work: hey. were you looking up ufc?

me, not wanting to engage with the chuds: no, God. it was porno. the shirtless, sweaty, desperately grasping men was a porno.
pud333.bsky.social
I haven't mentioned MMA at work in a decade. There's only one dude at work who remembers I like MMA. This new girl got hired and as part of her intro, she said she loved the UFC. So this guy turns to look at me and I basically gave him a glare like, "Don't you fucking dare say it. I will kill you."

Every once in a while I crave a donair but there is only one mediocre place by my home. But I still get one because it does scratch that craving. That said, I found the large one isn't any better than the regular donair. Just more veggies.

Even my science teacher who used to show us an episode of MacGyver once a week and quiz us put the hours in for his career.

This shit happens all the time especially with professions like teachers.

"Teachers are overpaid and they get summers off."

Ok bud. You become a teacher then.

When people complain about people being overpaid, I like to ask why they lack the motivation to grab that supposedly easy money. They never have an answer.

I've seen comments of folks getting upset Canada Post works get up to 7 weeks vacation time. That's after 25+ yrs of working for them. The question isn't why they get 7 weeks. The question is, why are your work benefits so shitty?

I got 6 weeks paid vacation after 15 years but I'm capped out now.

So... Those Pokemon card videos where they're just opening packages and trying to find worthwhile cards... What happens to the cards they don't want? Are they just thrown out? This is what happens when I work from home. I watch and think of dumb shit.

I estimate that this guy over the past decade of team meetings has wasted at least 24 hrs of my life asking basically the equivalent of "Will this be on the test?" type questions.
pud333.bsky.social
I'm on a team call with the region and this dingus... It's always the same fucking guys, keeps asking questions he can simply look up himself. "How does returns compare to..." Holy shit, man, you have access to the same systems. Use. Your. Access.

I swear to god it's nothing but spoonfed babies.

I think it might actually be two different departments or two different people working on it. Whatever the reason it's dumb. Watch, I bet after we reply, somehow they find a way to say it's not good enough and we owe. CRA is desperate for money and are looking for wins wherever they can.
pud333.bsky.social
I mean, it appears you fuckers have all the info you need, yet insist on us officially replying? Yeesh.
pud333.bsky.social
CRA is brutal. My wife got a notice a month ago that as part of the reassessment of her taxes, they were auditing the credit we applied for. But today she received a notice that she was reassessed and didn't owe anything even though we had yet to reply to the audit. They still want us to reply. Lol.

I hated season 2 but I liked the subsequent seasons. At this stage it's more about just getting it over with. TBH if tomorrow Netflix suddenly decided not to release the final season I would just shrug.
pud333.bsky.social
I just feel like it's inevitable the finale will disappoint at this stage.

The ‘STRANGER THINGS’ series finale will be 2 hours long.

It will also explain what the Upside Down is.

Also me: Fuck, I forgot lunch for the kids!

It's amazing how quickly administration can move when they want to, huh?

Looks like the fix is in ahead of today’s CSAC meeting.

Just did enough ‘stakeholder meetings’ behind closed doors to take the position they wanted to from the get go.

‘We’ve heard both sides’.

Public criticism be damned.
