Dear Washington, we have the second most regressive tax system in the nation and it's because our Constitution won't let us do progressive income tax. If you don't like being taxed at a higher rate than software devs like me, you gotta speak up! Sales tax is the literal worst option. Amend it!

The dumbest part about this is many projects have funding going to Trump voting districts, and some cross state lines into "red" states. The Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub was headed for red counties in WA, OR, and MT.
Obvi not the first example of this, but I keep hoping it'll wake some folks up.

Going all the way to the top and walking down the spiral stacks is my favorite part.

9/ He wanted *every* child to feel welcome in the neighborhood.

Remember: when you're scared, look for the helpers. You'll always find people helping. And if you're able, BE one of the helpers.

I like you just the way you are. 143 🤟

8/ His kindness was formed in his childhood. His parents, especially his mother, were incredibly generous with their wealth and set that example of charity for him. But he was also bullied as a child and knew how awful that felt and wanted no one else to feel that.

He wanted NO ONE to feel that.

7/ I liked it so much I bought the book and pulled out a highlighter. It’s basically going to be like a gospel where, instead of the words being red to indicate those are the ones Jesus said, it will be yellow highlight for anything Mr. Rogers said.

6/ was Fred Rogers.

Last month, I listened to “The Good Neighbor” by Maxwell King. It’s the biography of Fred Rogers and y’all...he was SUCH a kind man. Positive masculinity embodied. If you want to be reminded how impactful kindness - and inclusion - is, I cannot recommend this book more highly.

5/ A man who congress honored shortly after his death by passing a resolution memorializing his life, achievements, and positive impact on the world.
That man…

4/ A man whose words were so dangerous that people called for his cancellation and have attempted to re-frame him as detrimental to the youth since his death.
A man whose birthday is recognized and celebrated as a day to remember his legacy and try to emulate it in his honor.

3/ in congress and the presidency.
A man who received the highest US civilian honor: the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
A man whose influence caused rumors to swirl that he wasn’t actually sincere in his public persona, that he was a different person in private and it was just a way to get rich.

2/ and around the world.
A man who listened to young people, answered their questions, and engaged with them respectfully, on their level.
A man who was secure in his masculinity.
A man who, through his own example, encouraged all of us to be better.
A man whose reach even influenced politicians

From an essay I wrote (includes an #antifascistBookclub recommendation):

"In Memoriam, or: about what happened last month..."

1/ A great American hero is dead.
He was a man whose deeply-held Christian faith informed how he spoke to millions of young people in America

No car? No problem! I've turned my bike into a propaganda mobile. Making good use of the mail from a Seattle for @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social .
I 🚴Wilson for Mayor!

(Okay, I do have a car, but I drive it like once a month so it's not good for propagandizing)
A close up of the back of my bike. It has a pride flag, a trans pride flag, a bumper sticker that says "bikes not bombs" and a mailer with a photo of Katie Wilson talking with two masc-presenting folks that says "Katie Wilson for Seattle Mayor"

4/ according to that, Franklin county is the only one with Dominion machine(s).

3/ and you can see what kind of machines each country in Washington has on the secretary of state's website: www.sos.wa.gov/elections/da...

2/ ...numbered boxes in a secured area. If they need to recount or check things, they'll get the ballots back out and manually check them against what the computer's tabulation was.
They also always do a statistically significant number of ballots manually counted to verify the machines are right.
propagandahat.bsky.social
1/ We have people collect the ballots from the USPS, then machines that slice open the ballots, then people separate the ballots from the envelopes, then folks verify signatures. Once verified, the ballots go into the counting machine where they're scanned and tabulated. They're then stored in...

Gonna nab that for my book of quotes: "protest in the way that aligns with your passion".
Zines are part of my protest. For some folks, continuing to live each day is theirs. Protest looks different for everyone, but each of those little, individual acts are important.
See you on Saturday. 💪🇺🇲🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🚩🏴

We had Angela Davis speak at my university a couple of years back. One of the many insightful things she said - protest in the way that aligns with your passion. If that’s poetry do poetry or music etc. Because then you will be able to sustain it. If naked bike rides are your passion, 100% do that.

Someone in my mentions is upset because these people haven’t suffered the worst at ICE’s hands and therefore they shouldn’t be praised for being out on the streets?

Yeah, no. To push back on these people we need everyone — especially those with relative privilege — to get up and get involved.

"Why Seattle should harm ourselves: if we don't, the Trump administration will"

Narrator: Trump will try to harm Seattle either way.

I'd read it to better comment, but their paywall.

Bahaha I missed that! Awwwww. 😅 (Imma pretend that's another joke 🤣)
propagandahat.bsky.social
I got my numbers mixed up and feel the need to correct. I'm in the "next 4%" bracket, with estimated 5.4% taxes. But the message is the same: the poorest are taxed 3 times what the top 1% are and that's a pile of BS. Amend the WA Constitution!
propagandahat.bsky.social
Thanks! I wish I could take credit for the phrase, but I think I heard someone say it on... Behind the Bastards, maybe? Right now it says "it's cheaper to be a good person" and I keep considering changing it, but I can't think of anything better than that. ☺️
propagandahat.bsky.social
We need to fix our constitution to do that, so talk to all the folks you know about how we have the 2nd most regressive taxes and it's because we can't do progressive income tax. The lowest bracket is taxed at 13% and I am taxed at 4%. itep.org/whopays/wash...

(Grammarian me is chuckling about how Kiro used "less" when it should have been "fewer" and you corrected it 🤓)
