I used to post long #VisualAlgebra threads on #MathTwitter before realizing that I was actually in #TheBadPlace. I'm going to make my debut #MathSky thread today, with visuals that I've never publicly shared. (Can you guess the topic?) I'm excited to show you, and I hope you enjoy!

This is the article I was interviewed for! Their new wonderful proof(s) of Pythagoras are now published in the Monthly.

Two teenagers have once again proved an ancient math rule
Ne’Kiya Jackson and Calcea Johnson have published 10 trigonometric proofs of the Pythagorean theorem, a feat thought impossible for 2,000 years.

We are at the tail end of the autumn splendor, but there's still enough colour in the leaves to make a nice backdrop for a Great Blue Heron.

My institution held a workshop about this one summer and I went. I didn't have to change anything about my courses, but I did rewrite all my syllabi in a way that makes them much friendlier to new students and easier to navigate.
My hot take is that most y'all's syllabi are absolutely awful to navigate and confusing to read. Ok maybe not the people on here, but if you've ever looked at the syllabi or LMS setups of your coworkers then you've seen some shit. I immediately became empathetic to students

So. A bit of a brag on a project I've been working on this summer.

First: credit where credit is due. I learned about what I'm going to describe from @clontz.org, while participating in last summer's MAA/AIBL workshop led by @drew-lewis.com et al.

Today's classes included one dedicated to @dccmath.bsky.social . My students have been studying the classification of wallpaper patterns into 17 symmetry types, and today they practiced making some patterns to fit given descriptions.
Here is a thread of images for your enjoyment
