Instagram seems to think I'm interested in $12,000 watches.

I mean, I am... I just don't have $12,000 to spend on a watch...

“Integrity” is a word that sounds like what it means.

I will not be taking questions at this time.

We're experiencing an unbelievable deluge of submissions. At our journal we got ~200 per year in 2020. Last year it was 600. This year it's 800 with several months to go. So that's why we're slower to get stuff out for review.

We're doing a piece called "Viking" by Soon Hee Newbold with my 7th grade orchestra and how they love this piece.

I'm sitting here looking at it and it's all half notes and quarter notes, open strings, parallel fifths--there's like nothing to it.

(No disrespect, in fact quite the opposite!)

I owe Mozart an apology for how I played the Sinfonia Concertante today 😥

Just saw a TikTok that posed the following question: “If composers could hear you playing their work, who would you most like to apologize to?”

Amazing.

I need to think on this. What would your answer be?

That piece is a lot harder than it needs to be...

Mozart was pretty high on my list!

Bach and Mozart were pretty high on my list too!

As I’m thinking about it, Mendelssohn might be my answer to both questions. I owe him an apology, but in fairness his bass parts are horrible

Pleased to say I have two former UW students in the orchestra with me and several current HS students coming to see it on Sunday. 😇

Playing the US premiere of Ruth Gipps’ concerto for violin, viola, and orchestra this weekend (paired with the Mozart, not surprisingly). Fun program!

I had to submit a breakdown of my schedule by the *minute* for some federal program compliance thing today. I'm at three schools and I teach in two different program areas... that was a job itself.

My boss: so how's our fourth quarter looking?

Me, the sales manager at the company that makes inflatable frog suits: well, you're never going to believe this, but

I often think about my fourth grade teacher who used to just sit with his feet up on the desk and read the newspaper in between smoke breaks in the staff room.

Today I was That Teacher. I gave all of my classes study hall/individual or small group practice day because I had too damn much to do.

Higher Ed in 2025 is opening your mailbox to see that your institution has sent you:

1. A Center for Teaching and Learning call to integrate AI into your classroom; and

2. An Office of Academic Integrity email encouraging you to crack down on students who use AI to cheat.

I’m honored! I already use a bunch of your stuff in my class (this is my first year teaching MLLs) and will look at this tonight.
