In the wake of the murder of Charlie Kirk, an organized political effort has emerged: Political figures are mining social media for statements about the murder and demanding that state employees be fired or otherwise pushed out of their jobs because of their speech. (1/5)

The Trump administration spent $167,000 to destroy $9.7 million worth of birth control and other contraceptives that were supposed to go to low-income countries. Imagine hating helping so much that you’d actually spend money just to make sure others don’t get help.

We need to eradicate the idea that the only way to be a man is through domination and death. And also, gun control. emilytaylor.substack.com/p/dying-to-b...

Guns and cars are the two biggest culprits here. Which means that we could go a long way towards closing these gaps by investing in public transit and better regulating access to firearms.

This is appalling. Civilized countries look at us and are rightly horrified that this idiocy and cruelty is sanctioned by--encouraged by--our government.

(I originally wrote "Other civilized countries look at us..." But do we any longer count in their ranks?)

During our discussion about #AndrewCuomo, @profemily09.bsky.social mentioned the insidious impact of rape culture, which is why it was so infuriating when Kirsten Gillibrand minimized Cuomo's "comeback" as an example of New Yorkers believing in "second chances." cc: @lindseyboylan.bsky.social

Abuse of power in personal relationships should disqualify you from holding positions of power in political office, full stop.
Concerns about Cuomo’s “ethics and conduct” would not benefit NYC’s future in any way. As my friend @profemily09.bsky.social pointed out, politicians who abuse people will abuse power — that’s how it works.
NYT Editorial board effectively endorses Andrew Cuomo today in the most weaselly possible way. “Don’t rank Mamdani, and it will probably be either him or Cuomo, sooo…”

Of all the historically fascist police forces to send in the national guard to "support" I'm pretty sure LAPD didn't need any help, as evidenced below.
Whoa! Hats off to ABC News reporter Matt Gutman for keeping his cool yesterday.

This LAPD officer needs to be relieved of duty if he can’t handle an alleged “touch” without snapping.

"Most new ICE partnerships in South Carolina were signed by sheriffs. Those are elected positions. The next time your local sheriff is up for election, research the candidates’ positions on this issue."
Excellent piece by @paulbowers.bsky.social : www.aclusc.org/en/news/are-...
Are your local police collaborating with ICE?
The second Trump administration has been quietly building a network of local collaborators to carry out its mass deportation agenda. Your local law enforcement agency might have already signed up.

yes. i think the only thing the white house has accomplished this week is dramatically grow the crowds against them.
I think all they’ve really managed to do this week is encourage more people to turn out for the No Kings protests.

Being underwater on every issue before July is pretty impressive.
