I was just telling someone the other day that it’s surprising/weird that there are no LAP coffee shops near me in #Bergmannkiez. It looks like those days are numbered #kreuzberg #berlin

Harrisburg, PA — there are so many older women in banana suits at the Capitol holding antifa signs and none of that sentence would have made sense to me 10 years ago

“There’s been times where I have sat back in my house and really wondered how I was going to feed my family,” said one single mom of three. She warns that there’s “going to be pregnant women skipping meals so that they can feed their toddlers”: www.pbs.org/newshour/nat...

Picture how big the Hoover Dam is. An absolute unit. The Hoover Dam has a power capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW).

The solar farm that the Admin just cancelled could have produces 6.2 GW of power. That's more than 3 Hoover Dams.
SCOOP: The Bureau of Land Management says the largest solar project in Nevada — the Esmeralda 7 mega-farm — has been canceled

The news was quietly dropped via a sudden website update with no public word from any of the companies involved or a statement from the agency

It would have delivered a gargantuan 6.2 gigawatts of power.

The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.

i feel like im going crazy bc housing prices are crushing me and every day i wake up and see the political convo being "is cantaloupe is woke?" "did TGIF change its logo?" "are we renaming new mexico to new america?"
Since the first time I had birria (I think it was at the taqueria el oso pop-up in Berlin) I thought it had delicious similarities to Taiwanese or Chinese beef noodle soup. Last night in Santa Cruz I got to eat birria ramen, and a personal Asian-Latino fusion dream came true. Thanks Tacos El Chuy!

I’m sure a Google Maps product manager got promoted for this brilliant feature that sends you (checks notes) identical notifications multiple times an hour after searching for restaurants. #enshittification

Highly recommend listening to this episode. Paraphrasing what stuck with me the most. I listened yesterday.
Dissents are important and are not about today.
We are writing for a future society.
We have a mandate to bear witness.
My friend and colleague Wesley Morris and I had a very sobering conversation about America since the 1619 Project published and how it feels to be falling back under the veil that W.E.B. Du Bois so mournfully wrote about. I hope you’ll listen to this episode of Cannonball @nytimes.com

Finally (I use this word carefully), some office in Thailand has to calculate weight or something, and that info can only be transmitted by phone due to the technical issues…
Of course: there was a discrepancy between the number of people who passed through the gate vs. are on the plane (?!), & it’s taking ages to reconcile.

And someone checked in (delayed from yesterday) with luggage and then didn’t board, so the ground crew had to manually find and unload that bag.
they are checking everyone’s boarding pass manually and comparing it to a paper list.

I guess congrats Germany for being so undigital that when disaster/hackers strikes, you have analog fallback plans?

#BER #airport
Since the announcements (and airport website!) are just calling this a “technical issue” of a “service provider,” want to share that things seem mostly okay at #BER #airport. Long luggage drop-off lines; security slow but not unusually so.

HOWEVER, for boarding:

This story is worth a read, but it's so frustrating to see, since I know virtually everyone quoted in it (and the author) and ... there were *lots* of people warning of these coming dangers. Andreessen became a baby about his feelings long before taking offense to the slight from the Biden admin.
A snapshot of Silicon Valley in 2025 is Mark Zuckerberg, now a MAGA-friendly mixed martial arts fan who doesn’t worry much about hate speech on his platforms and complains that corporate America isn’t masculine enough.
I Thought I Knew Silicon Valley. I Was Wrong
Tech got what it wanted by electing Trump. A year later, it looks more like a suicide pact.

She “said that she tried to tell the agents that her baby was due w/in days. 'OK, your baby is going to be born here, but you're from Mexico, right?' they responded. 'I was born here,' López Alvarado later told Spanish-language media. 'I was born in Los Angeles; I was born in Hollywood Hospital.'"
new from @tusk81.bsky.social:

Cary López Alvarado, a U.S.-born American, was days away from giving birth when she was violently restrained by masked deportation agents. She’s among several Americans filing claims against DHS, ICE, and CBP for racial profiling and civil rights violations.
‘I Was Born In Hollywood Hospital’: U.S. Citizens File Legal Claims Against The Federal Government For Civil Rights Violations
Among Americans harassed by immigration agents include a woman who was days away from giving birth and a special needs teen who was held at gunpoint outside a school.

i don’t think people on bluesky understand the severity of this situation.

i woke up to literally hundreds of texts from friends and family thinking about either moving back home to india or applying to other countries for jobs. this includes me.
Those on an H1B cannot return to the US from tomorrow (Sunday) unless paying $100K. This is an out-of-the blue presidential action. We’ll see software engineers stranded abroad.

One easy to predict outcome: those on US visas will travel less… for work, for conferences etc.
